Planning a late June - early July trip to the Yellowstone area. Will be staying in private RV parks. Particularly interested in feedback about Billings Montana and Trailer Village. Bozeman Montana and Sunrise RV Park. Also Wapiti (Cody) Wyoming and Yellowstone Valley Inn. Need full hookups and pull thru's. Prefer very nice rather than rustic.

Surely, you're not considering staying in one of those places to tour Yellowstone, unless you like driving LONG distances.

Cody, to the Fishing bridge area is about 76 mi, one way
Bozeman, to the Gand Loop/ Norris rd. jct, is about 104 mi., one way
Billings, to the same place is about 198 mi each way.

As Mandalay Parr stated,Grizzly in West Yellowstone is nice, and MUCH closer, like 14 mi. to Madison Jct.

We have stayed at all the parks that you mentioned. We liked the Yellowstone Valley Inn, because it's away from it all, and convenient to Cody, as well as the east entrance of Yellowstone, which we drove into two separate days. Before we entered the park boundary by several miles, we had the best grizzly-viewing experience of our lives. It was on the south side of the road, and a mama griz and her two cubs were wandering around on the other side of a creek running parallel to the road. I wanted to sit there all day with the binoculars. Wish we had a better zoom on our camera at the time! Also, you will need the two-day ticket for the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody. It's wonderful.

If we had to stay in Billings, we would chose Trailer Village. It's nothing special, but the rate is much more bearable than the KOA. They are exorbitant, and it's just not worth what they want for it.

Our favorite in Billings in the Sunrise. The couple running it are sooo nice. I will never forget how wonderful they were to me the day my mom died. We were parking the motorhome, and DH was immediately driving me to the airport for a flight to TX. I told her about my sadness, and she rushed around the counter to hug me. She offered her help in anything we needed. And the park is nice, too!

Sorry this was so long. Your mentioning these places sparked some memories for me.

Have a wonderful trip. I love that area of the country. If you have a chance to drive over the Big Horn mountains east of Cody, take it. They are beautiful, but be careful if you have a big rig, because of steep hills and curvy roads. US 16 west out of Buffalo is better than 14.

I'll stop rambling now.

Wow, try visiting Buffalo for a day or two if you can. I haven't stayed at any of the campgrounds there since a cousin lives on the hill west of town. I'm able to park my rig on his place and he has hookups just for family who show up. Buffalo has a great museum which really surprised me. And also a sight to visit it the private museum of Don King's up in Sheridan just north of Buffalo. They have the largest, and I've seen some biggies, collection of seriously old firearms and saddles in the world there. Message me if you want more info. Enjoy Wyoming!

We stayed at Yellowstone Valley Inn last summer and are looking forward to returning. Don caught monster rainbows out of the N. Fork of the Shoshone next to the CG, we were able to visit the sights in Cody and the surrounding area. It was not a place to go to Yellowstone from - too far - but by itself was just wonderful.

Your route confuses me a little. Why Missoula to Boz, to YNP, back to Billings? Just trying to stay on I90?

If it's Missoula to YNP to Sturgis, you'd be better off going through Ennis on 287 to get down to West, then over across to meet up with I90 again in Sheridan.

Maybe I'm just not understanding, but looks like you could save some miles by bypassing both Bozeman (where we live) and Billings.

We will be going from Seattle to Sturgis SD via Interstate 90 Stopping at Moses Lake WA, St. Regis MT, Anaconda MT, Billings MT, and Buffalo WY. On the return trip we will go back via Bufffalo WY and Cody WY to West Yellowstone. Using Hwy 16 as we went via 14 a couple yrs ago. Loved 14 but want to see new scenery. We will go from Yellowstone to Bozeman visiting relatives there. Then home via I 90.
