Has this ever happened to you?

Hooked up to sewer at recent trip to RV park. Checked water levels and gray was full. Went outside and pulled gray water lever to empty. Later that day the shower started to back up. Level indicator was showing full still. Went outside and pulled lever for gray and nothing was coming out. After using a plunger for 30mins and not getting anywhere, father-in-law pulled the "black" water lever and.....SWOOSH!! Water started to subside in the shower.

Answer: Make sure the factory has labeled your drain valves properly.

Thanks to Fleetwood (or whoever placed the labels on) I have been emptying gray first and black second.

Luckily I have a label maker.

OOOH, I hope you don't need to do a black tank solids break up.
At least it was a mis label instead of shower connected to black, now that would be gross.

My last 2 new TT's were mislabeled as well. Since I use the Flush King (which is clear) it was easy to spot (and change the labels).

Was it just the labels that were wrong or were the valves wrong too, the black tank valve is always larger than the grey tank valve.

As a rule of thumb I always emty both tanks when I dump then I know that both are empty. Its a stinky mess and I think several of us have had this happen I did to good luck I hope it wasnt to much of a disaster.

Mines like Norm says, gray pipe and valve MUCH smaller than black tank pipe and valve.

Yeah, Grey is usually 1.5-2" and the Black is usually 3" or bigger.

Our gray tank fills up fast. Even when the fill indicator said 1/2 full we had water backing up into the shower.

I don't understand that one... Any ideas??

According to the specs for your trailer, you have a single 38 gal grey tank. For any more than two people that will fill up in about 2 days. One way to conserve is to dump the dishwater down the toilet, into the black tank, as that usually takes longer to fill up. The fact that the guage is inaccurate is pretty normal.. When it backs up into the shower, it is full.

If you have kids, you need to teach them to not just let the water run like they do at home.
