Quick question to anyone who has experience with this.

We just got our fifth wheel and are packing it out in the driveway. We have our power adapted down to a 120 connection. Is it OK to run the AC off this connection? Getting hot here....

Thanks
Scott

Probably but that's all you can run and use as short of a cord as possible. You're still powering the converter. Make sure your refrigerator and water heater are either off or on propane and to make the a/c startup power surge easier on the compressor, set the a/c fan blower to run on low constantly.

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

It all depends on what the amperage is for the circuit you are plugged into. It should be at least a 20amp breaker to run the air. You didn't state whether you have a 30amp or 50amp service in your RV??

If you have 50 amp service to your coach, you can run anything and everything anytime. But, if you are plugged into a 15 or 20 amp outlet, then you'll have to limit the current draw as crickeydog suggested. JMHO

I am able to run mine on a dedicated 20 amp circuit as long as nothing else is on. My problem is it takes a 100' cord and I get significant voltage drop even using a 10 gauge extension cord.

Hopefully the ONLY connection you plug into is 120V!!!
The only question is the current rating.
A standard home outlet is 15amps, not quite enough for your air conditioner.
20 amps is a minimum.
If this is something you are going to want to do on a regular basis I recommend you install (or get an electrician to install) a 30amp RV outlet.
Even though your rig is a 50A service, you will be able to run one A/C on 30A.
Installing 50A at home will get quite a bit more expensive and, IMHO is not really necessary.

I concur with Keith and the others. You will want at minimum 20A service for that adapter plug you have, but would be much better served with the 30 outlet that you can connect to as needed. I've run a 20A outlet, but plan to upgrade in the near future. I can run the A/C, but don't leave it on very long. But do leave the Refrigerator on all the time. I've got the voltage meter plugged in in the galley, so I can monitor if there is too much load loss. 30 Amp service will be put in when I get my Tax refund....

Most modern homes have at least one 20A recep in the garage somewhere. Mine has one on each wall. The others are 15A. If you have room, as someone else said, add a 30 to your panel. You can have the recep next to your breaker panel and buy a 30A ext cord if you need it. One day camping you will need it anyway.

Watch your voltage stays 108 or above inside the RV once the air is running.
