Bought a used 24' jayco, everything works great, but the hot water tank which is electronic ignition will spark and light but only for about 5-15 seconds then shuts off. It then re-ignites and goes out again. There is plenty of gas in both tanks so i know thats not it. There is obviously something wrong with the elect. gas valve or something of that nature. Please help with any suggestion or similar experiences with this problem.

Check the thermocouple.
Sounds to me like the unit is starting properly but the thermocouple isn't sending back the electrical signal that the flame is on. So therfore the unit shuts off.
A safety feature of the thermocouple.

Make sure that the lines are bled well and that there are no air in the lines either. If I leave mine with no LP for a while it takes a few tries to get it to stop doing that.

That's my vote too. You can take a Mini Torch and put a low continous flame on the Thermocoupler Tip, make it glow slightly red and see if it keeps the Burner running. If you remove the Mini Torch flame and it cools down and quits you will know.

This is another good point and possibility. Light the Gas Stove Burners, Fridge on Gas, get all the orange flame (air) out until it's all Blue, then try the HW Heater.

The connector on ciruit board could be corroded.
Check the ground wires on the gas valve.
Thermal couple is possible or flame sensor depending on year.

Since it is a DSI (Direct Spark Ignition), it is a flame sensor and not a thermocouple. Not nit-picking on terminology but if you go to a supply house, you need to know what you are asking for and a thermocouple will not work with electronic ignition.

We had a similar problem with our DSI on the hot water tank last summer (DSI fault light kept coming on after several attempts to light the burner). It was a problem with the pilot/ignition thingy - it had been bent or loosened and wasn't close enough/connecting effectively with the burner when lighting. It was a really simple fix and just required an adjustment. Too bad hubby and I are so useless mechanically - otherwise we could have easily fixed it ourselves!

It sounds like you need to clean your igniter and sensor, it could also be a bad ground.

if there is air in the line it will try three times to light then try no more... you will have to turn it to off and back on again for another series of try's... you may have to do this three of four times...
if it is sparking and trying to light the wiring shouldn't be a problem, so the next step would be the sensor... it could be just a adjustment or be bad... if you don't have the manual, you can get it on line... it will have a step by step guide on this...
