We are the stair climbers I guess you could say...tent to pop-up to a tt to a bigger tt w/ slide. Now we are condsidering a fifth wheel. We have enough truck for the job and hubby is experienced driver, just don't know about losing most of the truck bed for hauling "stuff"?

Two things about stepping up to a fifth wheel. First, the 5th wheel sits above the rails of your truck, thus, you still retain plenty of truck bed space. Second, you gain so much more space in the fifth wheel. More storage space as well as more living space. You will be glad with a fifth wheel.

we went from TT to 5'er last spring. Lots of storage in the basement for all our stuff-or should I say hubbys stuff, i got to put in one lawn chair!LOL. We have an ATV, and it could no longer be hauled in the truck bed. We go to Arizona in the winter, so we hired a trucking company to ship it down for us..and we bought a garden shed for our rental lot and just left it there, locked up..we still can haul a few things in the truck bed. There is lots of storage room inside the trailer..I just love the 5th wheel, and probably would not go back to the TT. With a king bed and mega drawer space and closets, its awesome. We also have a full size closet at the main door(its prepped for washer, so again, lots more space..hope this helps. Dona

5th wheels have more storage space than TT's thus less need to carry excess items in the truck bed. As far as losing space in the bed with a little careful planning you can still carry quite a bit of stuff in there. We have a low profile tool box in the front with an area under it for small storage containers, etc. We also carry the kingpin stabilizer along the side and the bulky 50A power cord in the back. Also have room for a cooler or two if wanted. We also have a homemade box for holding an extra propane tank. As long as it doesn't interfere with the operation of the hitch and/or add excessive weight you should be okay. If you have the truck to pull it with you'll probably be a lot happier with a 5vr than TT.

Hopefully you do have plenty of truck? Fifth wheels tend to be heavier than a TT and place way more load on the truck. Fivers offer more stability on the road, more interior room for the amount of trailer on the ground, and are generally more comfortable. They however are not for everyone. Like you noted the hitch takes up a sizable amount of real estate in the trucks bed. But this can be offset by the additional storage in the fiver. We likely will never go back to anything else. Unless of course it is a really small TT to pull behind DW's Suzuki.

You will find that the 5ver is much more stable and easier to pull. And, as stated, the storage space in most of them is fantastic - you will not need the truck bed so much. When we switched, the differences were like night/day - we loved the 5ver!

That's really a personal decision. We went the opposite way because of wanting the enclosed bed space. FWIW: an equal amount of living space in a TT will probably have a lower purchase price. Definitely less wind resistance and it won't be quite so necessary to look out for low hanging tree limbs, etc. Probably fewer steps to get into it from outside and no stairs inside. Both have advantages, both have disadvantages. Gotta please yourself.

We just went from a tt to a 5ver, It seems like we have 3 times the storage that we used to have because every thing went into the truck bed that didn't fit in the tt. Still have lots of room in bed with the hitch. Thought we were missing stuff because of extra room.

Actually a fifth wheel is less wind resistant than a travel trailer.
