We started out looking for a 5th wheel and ended up with a TT. For the weight limitations we had, (7500 lbs max) the TT had more to offer for us. We wanted a rear bathroom (NEVER have seen one on any 5er) a walk around queen.. (in our weight limit, most had low ceilings up front)

But that was just us.. Each has their advantage, but in general, for weights less than 8000 lbs, I would go with a TT, over that, it is whatever you prefer. There are some really nice 5ers but they are mostly over 10,000 lbs.

Shop around and take your time. It's becoming a buyers market so you should be able to work a good deal on what you like. Never had a TT and don't care for them. A couple friends have them and they seem crammed to me. I think you get more space and privacy in a 5er. I love the large slide out on ours.

We went from a tt to a 5er last year and love it. Used to have to cary a lot of stuff in the truck bed due to limited storage in the tt but all of it and more fits in the 5er and makes it a faster process to get hitched up and on the road becuase of this. Less chance of forgeting something that is already packed in the trailer.

We went from a TT to a fiver 3 fivers ago and never looked back. As stated earlier, like night and day towing and lots of storage space in most units.

Good luck

I am not of the age to leave a 50k truck at the campground to pull the big toy hauler. So a TT is abetter choice for us as we can tow the trailer drop it for a month to month campground and use the burb to haul kids and dogs around.

What you didn't mention is the size of 5ers you are looking at. We definitely have more space in the bed of the TV with a 25' TT than we ever had with a small 5er. Also, if you are talking the smaller units, our TT bedroom is far better-you can stand up in it. Now get a bigger 5er and the other posters are right--more space. Unless we decide to go big, we are staying with our TT. So figure out sizes and then look carefully. We can put two bicycles and approx 8 large plastic tubs, lawn chairs, and tools all in our pickup bed plus two kayaks on top of the canopy. Couldn't start to do that with a 5er unless you went very large...

We went from a TENT (not a tent trailer) to a 5er 14 months ago. Love the 5er. I was not a good sleeper on the ground although we use our tent for the odd canoe camping trip or a little car camping. The choice of RVs is all up to you. We researched TTs and class C's. Rented a class C and a Roadtrek before deciding on our 24 footer (about the smallest 5er made). No one kind of RV suits all holidays --- you have to decide. Good luck!

Three years ago we made the switch from TT to 5er. %er definitely has more cabinet, counter, and storage space. I can put all five bikes inside with no problems. 5er is a lot easier to pull and more stable down the road. No more worrying about an 18 wheeler pushing you off the road.

Interesting... I've been towing TTs for 35+ years and never worried about semis "pushing me off the road." The reality is that a properly set up TT will tow as good (sometimes better) than a fiver. The problem is that it is very easy to make a fiver tow well: plunk it down on the back of the truck. On the other hand, it takes a bit more knowledge in matching TV and TT, proper selection of equipment, proper adjustment, etc. If you ask those that say they would "never look back," and the fiver tows "hands down" better than the TT, you'll find that the person never towed with a modern hitch, but instead, used the antique designs left over from the 1950's.

The human factor in this equation is that nobody (including me) wants to state that their hitching arrangement/adjustment might have been defective. It's much easier to just move to a fiver and blame the TT. If you are new to towing and have nobody to help you sort things out, the fiver will tow better with little "futzing." . You'll have to decide how much you need to put stuff in the truck bed because that 8' storage area is pretty much gone with a fiver. Certainly, you can put low stuff in the bed, like tool boxes, leveling blocks, etc. But we take either a motorcyle or two ATVs. A fiver is not an option for us. Like the guy said: Go with your gut. Whatever you get, enjoy.

P.S. You read a lot about "all the room" in a fiver. Whatever is put into "all the room" will increase the weight. Fivers start out heavier than the equivalent TT. When "all the room" is filled up (and it will be eventually), the fiver will be even heavier.
