You always have to take reviews with a grain of salt. You have plenty of idiots out there that feel the need to give a 2/10 just because the price was more than they wanted to pay. You have to take your time and go through the reviews and see what exactly people are saying and even take the time to check out their prior reviews of different CG's.

Also my opinion of a nice CG and thing we are looking for or what we are willing to pay will be very different that others here. You sort of have to take a look at it all and determine what exactly is important to you and filter out the other stuff.

One thing is certain. Great CG's will often have many good to great reviews with perhaps one or two negative ones if any. Bad CG's are just the opposite. Mediocre ones are in between.

In my experiences when talking to folks about good and bad parks many times it comes down to price and how much they got away with as far as drinking , noise and whatever.

These days,it seems like, cheap means good to so many and pricey means "rip off"...

I try to look at all the reviews in a Google search - and then check here for posts - and if I am still not sure and I really want to go to that area, I just pick the best one I think will fit my needs - and whatever it turns out to be - it is. I try not to let anything ruin my weekend - and we have all had some bum bad trips at some not so great parks. Still, whatever it is - one should be sure to post a review and explain exactly why they did not like it in as honest of terms as possible - without being unnecessarily rude or mean. We are all looking for different things in a park and that being the case - we should make it clear in the review why the park did or did not live up to what we hoped for or expected.

I really appreciate the people who take the time to write a review and RVParkReviews is a great site. Also Texans and visitors - check out the new Texas Camping Forum for news and reviews.

Not sure what the problem with Baileyton is. I've been there and liked it. I had to laugh at one recent review about that place though. It said all gravel on a hill. What a crock. It is flat and gravel spots but lots of grass. Reviews are very subjective. I don't think too many campground owners can put in reviews but their friends can and some of the reviewers are just plain nuts or forgot which campground they were talking about.

Here, in Baileyton, the review states things like ‘the next time you are at this exit on I-81, stop in as it is a great place to stay over night or longer.’ We have now learned to take great reviews like this one with a grain of salt as they are usually the owner posing as an RVer just to promote their park. Does anyone know of a review site or method that does not allow owners or management to post reviews?

I was surprised at those recent low reviews of the Baileyton RV park as we stayed one night and loved it and posted a high rating for it. I disagree with you in your suspicion that those high ratings reviews were posted by the owners. If you look at the bottom of each individual review, and they go back a few years, it tells you how many other reviews that person has posted and you can click on the link to see them. They appear to be legitimate.

In fact, my suspicion is that one person got a friend or two to post 2 or 3 low reviews in a row for Baileyton. Those low reviews coming right in a row and sounding similarly worded seem bogus to me.

There are many reasons that folks may use a campground. Chicago has been mentioned. There just are not that many places to stay, good or bad. If you want to visit some one in the area you take what you can find.
I'm a full timer and also a n editor for RV Park reviews. To me location is the most important thing when looking for a campground. If there are several in an area, I then can start being picky. If I am just spending a night or two I will stay almost any where.
Location is still the most import thing.

Yes, I am one of the editors for RVparkreviews, and each of us has the ability to NOT post a suspect review. That is, if we suspect something fishy, search the past reviews that individual has posted, or for any other reason. Of course, sometimes we slip up, but we are volunteers, and (as they say) you get what you pay for.
Being one of the editors soricobob, would you know why a review that I wrote for a campground in NJ was never posted? I stayed there the last weekend in April and wrote/submitted the review on the Monday after my stay. It's a campground that was not previously reviewed on rvparkreviews.com and it was the first review I've posted. I gave them a fair review, not glowing and not crushing. I also felt that I did everything that the site asked for new reviews. Yet, mine has not yet been posted. Any thoughts?

If you would have read the rules you would have seen that your 1st is never posted. It is a very common mistake.

My biggest grumble about a site such as RVparkreviews is not the site or the operators but the fact that so few take the time & trouble to submit a review.

Everyone wants the current information at their fingertips but of the tens of thousands of RVers out there who use the sites why are so many so lazy?

Like any judge, I ignore the glowing report in a sea of mediocre opinions & I'll ignore the major moan when all other opinions give the cg an average rating.

To Revdon64, big ben is right; that is, after one writes three reviews, they are then posted (and those thereafter). So, if you wrote one, write two more, and one of us will get to read them.
Thanks to all those who have given thanks/appreciation/kudos to us who work to keep everyone informed. It is fun, but sometimes frustrating, as "correcting" grammar, spelling, etc. can be tedious when the focal point is camping, not English.
Hope to see you down the road!
