WELLLLLL,
That line of thought may be getting TERMINATED......

I'm glad for a multitude of reasons that I don't live in California or any states in the tornado belt or on or near the east coast. Michigan is far from perfect but actually things here (nature things) are fairly benign. Too humid in the summer, though. Nasty in the winter, great in spring & fall.

Actually CA is years ahead of even the federal emiisions standards, but I don't think this will effect RV vistors. Send us your dollars and you can come visit anytime. We offer the best winter and spring weather of any of the lower 48 states.
As for food prices, CA decisions don't have much more than local impact. Its a global economy so if its cheaper to import elsewhere.... they will.
I grew up in the midwest, and have traveled much of the U.S. I'll take higher fuel prices and emission standards over scraping ice in the rust belt states any day of the week

The part of this that is different is that California is about to require retrofitting existing vehicles instead of requiring that they meet the standards in effect when they were new. That is a really big and expensive step. The long arm of the government just got longer.
IMHO, the above comments approach CA's air pollution problems mostly out of context. SMOG, mostly created by automotive emissions, was first officially recognized in 1943. In CA, it seems to be primarily approached as a health issue, though lately the "greens" jump on it as a "global warming" issue. I googled "los angeles air pollution" and got 4,840,000 web articles on the subject.
I feel that CA has attacked a local problem, with some success, that effects the health of most of it's population. Other state and local governments have recognized the same problems and are following CA's lead, probably to benefit the populations of their areas.
Lately, thanks to ol' Al, many are jumping on the band wagon, but probably for the wrong reasons....

I grew up around the LA area in California in the 50s/60s/70s, moved to Sacramento and then moved to the Atlanta area in 93. The family and I went back for a visit to LA about four years ago. All I can say is what a difference in air quality. I was truly amazed at the improvement.
You can b&i#ch about California emission requirements all you want, but they do make a difference. It wasn't until about 5 years ago that Atlanta actually called their air pollution Smog. Until then we had 'Ozone alert days'. The LA air quality beats the Atlanta air quantity hands down.
And don't get me started on Atlanta traffic! A multiple year study was conducted on how to improve Atlanta traffic. The outcome of that study - don't build mass transit, don't improve the highway system, don't look into alternative fuels - but instead USE MORE BUSES! So instead of trying to improve the air quality - they want to spend a BILLION+ dollars to improve the downtown area so that they might attract foreign visitors. Gee more people in Atlanta, now that's an improvement!!!!!!
And you would not beleive the 'good old boy' mentality between the counties that make up the Atlanta area. This place is insane...
We made a BIG mistake moving to Atlanta. We wish we had never left California. Five more years and we're out of here!
