So I was done getting the camper unwinterized and was heading into the house for supper, and being tired from the day I forgot to unhook the hose from the camper and the house but I did turn it off. We'll my oldest son came running in the house and said that he found the leak in the camper?? Puzzled because I had already found the leak, he said that there was water running out of the downstairs storage compartment. So it appears that my 4 yr old thought that he was going to help daddy with the camper and turned on the facuet and left it on. So I got that cleaned up, not to bad because we caught it right away, or so I thought. Today while I am at work, DW calls and said that the camper is leaking water again from underneath the camper. Yes, I forgot to check the underneath belly :-( So took out all the insulation, if you can call it that, it looked more like padding for a quilt. After all of this my question is:

Can I replace that insulation with regular house insulation like R-13 or something else? or do I have to use some sort of special insulation designed for RV's? Sorry for the long post, but we all got quite a chuckle out of this. John

I would use closed cell styrofoam (the pink stuff) as thick as whatever will fit in the space that is available. Make sure all of your wood dries out real well or you might have problems with that later on. If the styrofoam will be exposed you might want to protect it with some tyvek (?). You can get all of it at Home Depot or Lowes. Good Luck.

you can use regular house insulation but foam gives you more r value per inch and water doesnt soak into it like the fiberglass stuff.

The closed cell foam he is describing is called extruded polystyrene. It is different than expanded polystyrene - bead board
- which the usual foam insulation used by RV manufacturers.

But there is no such thing as pink styrofaom. Styrofoam is a brand name not a generic term. The Dow Chemical Co produces the Styrofaom brand of extruded polystyrene and their marketing color is blue. If you see a foam insulation that is pink it is produced by the Owens Corning company.

In my area the Home Depots do not sell the Styrofoam brand they sell the pink Owens Corning brand. The Lowes stores sell the Styrofoam brand.
