I know that I need to install a converter, but is there any reason to pay more for the Winegard than use the ones sold at various electronic stores? Just wonder if there is anything special in the winegard to cause it to take the bumps and abuse that an RV puts on everything going down the road.

Any converter will work. Stay away from the Magnavox at WalMart. I have two of the Zenith boxes from Circuit City seem to work ok. Don't forget about your $40 off coupons...

Cheaper than new LCD TV

I find no reason at all to pay Winegard's price for the converter

The 50 dollar ones I have work very well., HOWEVER:

I do not know if the Winegard passes analog to the tv. Many of the ones the government helps pay for (including both of mine) do not, and I'm told the ones that do are not all that good at it.

However I have developed a simple work around for that problem that for me was no cost (used stuff already on hand) but would be under 20 bucks if you had to buy it new.. Here is the text description Two versions (2nd one is in prens)

Antenna to splitter.. Splitter out 1 to switch "A" or antenna input(Or to TV) Splitter out 2 to converter,, converter RF-out to Switch "B" or Game or Cable input (Or A/V leads to TV A/V input)

Switches are either A/B, Ant/Game or Ant/Cable and which one you get (They are all the same switch, only the label is different) determines what the "B" connection is called)

There is a small signal loss in the splitter but it's not much. Works great here.
