What prevents these gravity feed tanks from overflowing the OEM tank?

Is overflowing a problem?

A gravity feed will overflow the OEM tank if left on.

Mine has a manual ball shut off valve and then a 12 volt electric solenoid valve. If I'm traveling I turn on the manual valve and use the electric valve as needed. If the key is off the electric valve is off, but I still turn off the manual valve when not traveling.

If the tank is installed using the RDS fittings to tap into the filler neck it will not overflow. The filler neck of the original tank is cut and a splicer or adapter is installed, this will have a fitting with a small float, this must be installed on the top side of the neck, it will shut off the inbed tank when the level of fuel gets up and into the filler neck hose. It is installed below the level of the original fuel filler cap, so the level of fuel does not get as high in the neck as the filler cap.

I have had mine for over 3 years now and it works great. The only time it gives me a problem is if I have a senior moment and leave it on over night, I use a manual valve, and it fills my factory tank, then I drive for a while with it still on, the fuel gage does not move off of full and the onboard computer thinks something is wrong with fuel gage and will turn on light on dash to check fuel gage. I simply shut fuel valve off and continue to drive and when gage moves off of full the light will reset.

A $2 egg timer from wal-mart keeps mine from overflowing. I set it to 35 minutes and when it rings the tank is full enough for me to turn off the pump. Once my 48 gallon RDS tank is that low it will not self siphon.

I just ordered a RDS tank today.A 91 gal with a tool box. It will cost more to fill it up than the tank cost.

I have the 91 gal RDS tank with the gravity valve and have never shut the valve off. The valve needs to be installed as horizontal as possible.

I got one that works flawlessly also. It is amazing that you will get posts that don't have an idea of how the system works.

When i have senior moments and leave mine on for dasys it will never overflow.

The instructions come with the gravity kit from RDS.

BTW, gravity is something it seems no one has figured out how to charge me for.

That shut off valve also functins as the anti roll over valve.

I have an RDS 51 gal. tool box combo and used their installation kit in my 04 GMC D/A. The first night that I left the tank valve on it filled up my OEM tank and then washed my driveway with diesel. RDS reply was that "some" trucks have a breather/vent in the OEM tank and it will indeed leak fuel when the OEM tank is full with the RDS tank valve is open. It would have been nice to have this information before hand from RDS but it is nowhere to be found on their website or in their literatrue. If I had known this maybe I would have spent the extra money and purchased a Transfer Flow.

My RDS is gravity fed before they even had the kit. I have left the valve open many times with no problems. The cap vents one way - - in. Love it and I love the extra money in my bank account from other tanks. Nothing to break, burn up or stick.
