After spending some time in a travel trailer with no slides, we're ready to upgrade to a 5er. The model we're currently looking at is an '02 Coachmen Chaparral 281 BHS. This model seems to suit all of our needs, but our experience in the past with Coachmen Travel Trailers we looked at were not in good shape and a couple had water damage.
Does anyone have one of these? Do you like it, and have you had any problems. Even though this one is a few years old, it looks to be in excellent condition, and fits our budget since I can't afford a new one. It's 5 hours away, so we won't get to see it until later this week.
Thanks for your help as we try to enter the world of fifth wheels.

I impressed with my Coachman Chaparral Lite 267RLS, purchased in Feb. 08.
Been used once a couple weeks ago. Very satisfied with Coachman's quality.
As stated in an early post look at as many different brands as possible.

I have a 2007 Coachmen Chaparral 269bhs (the newer version of the 281). Bought it last fall. Getting ready to take it on its maiden voyage next week. Towed it 3.5 hrs home and barely new it was behind me. 6.0 L v-8 gasser. You will get good reviews and not so good reviews on Coachmen, but then again, the same holds true for any manufacturer. If you like the floor plan and all looks good, including the frame, roof, axles and body, go for it.
