Awwwwwwww and it is soooooooo much funnnnnnnn reading these posts. But, alas, I've run out of popcorn again. Wait, I live in my rv, can I run down to the wallly world in my rv and get some more without being attacked?
Uh, no I'm not in a park, luckily I own my own roost, oh god, there I said it, I beat a rv park out of his money!!
When WE overnight somewhere (never have used a Walmart, by the way), we are just there for a few hours. Just three weeks ago, we spent the night in a parking lot for Bass Pro Shops. We called and asked permission first. We got there about 7 p.m., went for dinner, came back went to bed, and were up and gone by 4 a.m. Yes, we really left at 4 a.m., as the traffic in Chicago is HORRIFIC.
I have NO problem with folks looking for a place to spend the night like we did while on their way to their destination. And, if folks choose to find a place to spend every night of their vacation that ends up in a Walmart or Flying J parking lot, who are we to judge?
If it's not against the law, why is it so wrong?

Some of you are forgetting a lot of small towns do not have a CG period so when we have to stay in that class of town it is Wal-Mart, school, church, etc.
Posting your views is OK but at least get a grip on the fact it is not usually and either or matter.
So, let me get this straight. I somehow signed on to support the CG owners' ambitions? Did that come with my GS membership or something? Cuz, I don't remember seeing that part.
When I pull in for an overnight at a park, what I get is paperwork, rules, people, noise in the morning, and suddenly I'm on somebody else's schedule. And I'm supposed to want to pay for the privilege? Why would I want that? When I had all that stuff, people had to pay ME to put up with it. And that's about what it would take to get me to go with it now. At least at a retail location, all I get is the morning noise. And I let them have that much for free just because they're nice to me.
The way I see it, to get as good an exchange from a park, they'd have to pay me their going rate (just because I'm being nice and giving them exactly the same rate they were willing to give me). And then, IF I felt like it, I'd return the favor by using the money to take an additional night. But only if they have discount big box retail within 100 yards and security 24/7. Oh yeah - and they have to be nice to me, too. Any takers?

Sure thing, Friend. And now I've got a list of things that you're no longer allowed to do just because I have strong feelings against them.
On our recent trip to VA, we overnighted at WM once on the way down --pulled over at 11pm, left at 8am, dropped $150 in the WM gas station. On the way home, we overnighted at a different WM, pulling in at midnight and leaving at 8am. Didn't spend anything at that particular WM, BUT: we did drop $300 at a different WM on the first day of driving to buy food and other essentials for our first trip.
So, $450 for 2 nights of parking is more than reasonable IMO. And when we overnight, we park and sleep. That's it. I like driving late into the night on travel days. It's inconvenient to find an off the beaten path campground, the office is closed, and try to navigate narrow campground roads in the dark and find an open spot to park in without disturbing other people. WM is easier and I don't annoy people who paid good money for their site.
The only answer that comes to mind is for people to grow more skin, that is, let's thicken our skin. If you were like me, you would simply be amused at those who attempt to tell you how to run your life. It does not bother me in the least for someone to voice their opinion, and if they go further and try to force their opinion on me, that's when I start LOL.....
My life is simple; when traveling, if I choose to overnight at a Walmart, I simply find one/pull in/park and sleep. That's all there is to it.

Sir, you spent $450 for the products you carried out the door, not for the right to use the parking lot. Wal-Mart's intent was to increase business from us, not to create a Gypsy campground. (No, I am NOT saying you are a Gypsy and DON'T begrudge you the legitimate and intended (by WM) use of their facilities), but some folks need to exercise some personal restraint.
I know when I pull in to our local WM I am amazed at some of the things I see. I have no problem with a quick overhight to sleep, but when folks have bricks out to hold down their carpet and hold up their pink falmingo's I think it's a little overboard. The overboard part I think is the jist (sp) of this thread. We as humans and especially Americans, tend to take too much for granted. A couple of weeks ago it was a portable fire pit...In a WM? Give me a break!
