I know when I pull in to our local WM I am amazed at some of the things I see. I have no problem with a quick overhight to sleep, but when folks have bricks out to hold down their carpet and hold up their pink falmingo's I think it's a little overboard. The overboard part I think is the jist (sp) of this thread. We as humans and especially Americans, tend to take too much for granted. A couple of weeks ago it was a portable fire pit...In a WM? Give me a break!
I would agree that restraint is always a good thing. Last weekend when I was camping alone with my daughter, the four guys beside us drank themselves into oblivion, and then pulled an entire tree into their site, placed it over their fire ring and lit it with a torch. Scared the beetlejuice out of me.
Should I make general statements about campground patrons based on this out-of-the-ordinary experience? Some of these posts (not yours) are personal and distatsteful and quite likely "preaching to the choir."
I think most of us on this board use good common sense when we go out to play. Likewise, I think most people who accept Wal-Mart's invitation do so graciously.
I think sharing experiences and information is a fabulous thing. It would be more beneficial if the flamers would turn down their rhetoric so real ideas, concerns and thoughts could actually be heard.
I'm almost afraid to say this, but I got a good chuckle out of the carpet and flamingos. It's not that I think it's okay - it's just that the employees must have thought it was hilarious. I wonder how many pictures were taken that day.
In every group there's going to be someone who pushes limits. That doesn't mean we're all in imminent danger of losing our privilege to park overnight.
I think we should follow your advice and exercise restraint. Generally speaking and on many levels. There's no reason we as a group can't discuss this topic with diplomacy and the sense of brother/sisterhood that is the norm here.
I've seen people ask an innocent question about this topic and get blasted. That's just not cool.

I can not help but wonder how come:
We do not see photos of Walmart campers, with awnings out/carpet down/pink flamingos etc?
Nobody ever specifies the exact location of where they see all these Walmart campers/offenders?
I have NEVER seen a single one?

Willie,
I did see a pink 1960's Caddy convertable on a trailer behind a motor home in the El Centro CA WalMart, really kind of cool!

In the years I've been here, I've seen post after post describing these "campers". Although we travel a lot and stay at WalMart's often on our trips, we have never seen anything like these folks describe.
A single photo would go a long way. If someone has one but supposedly doesn't know how to post it, send it to me. I'll post it.

Maybe we can offer a REWARD for a picture of a genuine Wal-Mart camper, with the pink flamingos and the BBQ grill out, the chairs, tacky awning lights, etc, etc. I've heard of so many "sightings" of these creatures, I'd like to see the photographic proof. Or maybe they rank right up there with Bigfoot and the Yeti(LOL).
Maybe we can hold a contest for the best picture to be awarded at the Second Annual Wal-Mart Rally. I'm open to suggestions as what the reward should be!
Best Regards!

Occasionally, we see something a little overboard. A few days ago, we saw 2 5er's parked next to each other with a grill between them; not too "over-board" I don't think. They left while we were there. Lot's of times, a chair outside in the shade with a dog. We have NEVER seen carpet down, etc. We will take a pic, next time.

I've seen chairs out between RV's - it seemed multiple families traveling together.
As for the reward, it seems to me several free nights at a Wal-Mart would be entirely appropriate.

Sure thing, Friend. And now I've got a list of things that you're no longer allowed to do just because I have strong feelings against them. This sums it up well.
