I don't think it's the act staying overnight as much as the feeling that purchases from Walmart entitle one to park on their lot overnight.

I think you might be mis-characterizing what I think we mean when we mention money spent at a Wal-Mart. I think the intention of a comment like this is to reinforce the fact that this is a win-win policy for Wal-Mart and other businesses. It has nothing to do with entitlement. It's more like reciprocation. They do something for us and we do something for them. Everybody's happy.

Well, except for those who take issue with the practice of staying overnight in a parking lot. Never could figure out why others object so strongly. It's not like we're requiring everyone to do it. It's voluntary.

I've offered this advice before on this very subject and feel it bears repeating: For those of you that wish to stay in a Wal-Mart parking lot please continue to do so. For those that object to staying in a Wal-Mart parking lot, by all means, continue to not stay in them.

Isn't it neat how we can let others do as they see fit and not force our will onto them? I think you'll also find that minding your own business has absolutely no impact on yourself what-so-ever!

Billings, Montana had campground owners get the city to enact an anti Wal-Mart law that was overturned by the new city council just two years ago. Greedy campground owners are responsible for 90% of the anti camping ordinances. Ecoterrorists the rest. We stop at Wal-Marts when driving late on the road. usually around midnight. We are up and gone by 7:00 the next day. Who wants to spend $ 40.00 for six hours rest in a campground parking lot. The CG's are missing out by not having a no frills short term area for travelers. But then I do note that those that do are often criticized on RV Park Reviews for not offering tons of amenities. We do not wnat the RV REsort amenities and the high price tags. Just a placve to rest for a few hours before we hit the road again. Wal-Mart, crazy like a fox, offers that alternative. There are some who feel its their right to put their slides out and levelers down and they do ruin it for the rest of us but 95% of the Wal-Mart boondockers are considerate and thoughtful. AND we do spend a ton of money before heading out each morning.

Out of curiosity have just that many of you had bad experiences using rest areas in your travels, or is the size of your rigs causing difficulties finding places to park in rest areas at night more to blame? I have the advantage of being small, and can usually pull into the car end of a rest area to pull down sleep when I'm on a destination run that requires crossing several states.

I tried the sleep a truck stop thing, but it didn't work. Too loud (Lots of idling diesels) and too bright (Flood light parking areas).

If I ever need a place to rest when I'm coming up on a rest area, I'll stop there and rest. Wal-Mart has the added incentive of shopping for needed supplies so it saves time and is less hassle. The corner of Wal-Mart's parking lot is quite likely quieter than the average rest area so it doesn't break my heart when that's a good option.

Kids asleep by 7pm??? Surely you jest. What do you do, drug them? 7pm might be the case for a toddler (MIGHT be), but as they get a little older your 7pm bedtime goes out the window. Wait till they get a little older & see what happens!! (BTW, a tenement, properly spelled, is actually a building in and of itself. Don't see where any RV park could be classified as such).

Our kids are twin 6 month olds and a 2.5 year old.

Sorry for my misspelling I hope it doesn't keep you up at night. Tenement has more meanings than you elude to. Goto Google and type:
define:tenement

Anyway, why its any better for you to be in an RV park where you are packed so close to your neighbor that you can't even open your awning is beyond me. But do what you enjoy.

All the truck stops along major hwys. have free overnight, so what's the problem? I say go where you're supposed to go, Walmart is not a cmpg. nor an overnight cmpg. it's a store! truck stops are fuel stops and overnight stops, with showers and everything...GEEZ!

And yet we've been invited by Wal-Mart and several other businesses to do precisely that. So, it turns out that's one of the places we're "supposed to go." If Wal-Mart says I can, why would you want to suggest that I can't - or shouldn't?
