Just a suggestion for those with rubber filler hoses that thiefs can easily access. Remove the hose and take it to a muffler shop. Have them bend a slightly larger piece of muffler pipe that matches the bends of your rubber filler hose. Leave enough rubber exposed to put the clamps back on and re-install. You'll get some protection at reasonable price.

Problem I had, left ontario in my Vectra DP Feb.9 08 crossed at Detroit and first fuel stop at Beaverdam Ohio Flying J. Went to open key locked fuel door that was now frozen(key lock) from the cold temps. When I forced the door it broke the tab on the key lock, fueled up and now the spring loaded door was stuck out like a small wing. Removed the screws and put the door in the coach. From there to Brownsville Texas I had no protection from any one taking the cap off, luckily had no problems, fixed it in Texas.
I think a locking gas cap is a good idea and the door with a type of latch to keep it closed in transit.

Let's see - anybody want to go into business? I'm thinking a motion sensor activated rattle that sounds like a rattle snake, behind the panel just below the tank fill. I can't think of anything else that would make a gas thief back off so quickly.

Now there's the solution. Surely no jury in the world would convict you of killing a gasoline thief. Geeeeez. What a mentality!..............

Lighten up guy, it was said in jest, I think. Maybe aim for a knee cap instead of killing the thief, or just bust a cap into the ground. (I would have said into the air, but I know that would draw comments about how the bullet would always fall into some innocent's head).
You gotta laugh at some of the bad things that happen.

Usually, if I point my 45 with laser sight activated, the perp will throw up his hands and run. No shots necessary.

I thought the subject matter here was locking gas caps.

Every forum dealing with security winds up being a right to bear arms debate.

Yeah, but you don't have a right to kill someone because they're stealing gasoline. If prices keep going up, that may change, however.
