All that you have to do is hedge your costs.

Thanks for letting me laugh through my tears. Went up here .08 yesterday, and .10 4 days before that.

My wife said a gallon of 2% milk at Wal-Mart is #4.25. Diesel is $4.31 outside. Oh well, diesel is still a bargain at half the price of a decent Calif red table wine (Carlo Rossi Paisano $9.00/4-litres in Texas - less in Calif).
A gallon of milk lasts us a week. A gallon of diesel lasts 12 minutes on the highway. It's like pouring a gallon of milk out the window every 12 minutes for the privilege of sharing the bumpy right lane with a tailgating 18 wheeler and maybe catching an occasional glimpse of a boring and featureless countryside.
This is beyond extravagant. It's insane!

I parked the Diesel truck two months ago. I'm hoping that the appreciating value of the fuel in the tank will offset the depreciation of the truck. I'll sell the rig when the fuel value exceeds payoff.

I keep asking why people are complaining about the cost of gas/fuel. It’s quite clear that most people here in the US are happy with the price! After all we won’t drill for our own oil! We won’t build new refineries. We won’t build nuclear generating stations. Obviously we like what we are getting.

Remembet two things:
1. I carry a gun, because a cop is too heavy.
2. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

For every gallon each of you save by parking your rigs, I am going to burn three. Too many toys to park them all, and we need all the global warming we can get.

But we still enjoy our trailer every weekend without buying fuel. We have it setup in a small park out in the pineywoods with a dozen or so other rv'ers and enjoy all the fun of rving - camping, fellowship, grilling and stuffing our faces with fat and sugar (the only negative haha).
Several retired country/western musicians live fulltime in their rv's there - one of worked many years as lead guitarist for a leading Nashville singer. They put on a great show every Sat night, with their wives who also sing and pick, and amateurs come out from town to "jam" with them all weekend in our air-conditioned "jam shack". The camp is in the middle of a 4000 acre hunting lease which we have full access to from Jan 1 to Oct 1. (The retired musicians live there for the deer hunting). There are barns and corrals for those who have horses and can afford the diesel to tow the horse trailer :-).
It's great fun - maybe more than burning-up the interstate - at a fixed and budgetable cost ($200/month + metered elec). We were depressed for awhile with the rising fuel costs, because we really love our trailer, but now we can't wait for Fridays. And it's a LOT LESS hassle than towing! It's working-out okay.
I now use my Dodge diesel only when I have something heavy to haul - I have 22 acres with animals and farm equipment - the rest of the time we use a little car that gets over 30mpg and seems to be holding-up pretty well on these rough and muddy dirt roads.

Don't know what your payoff is ... but at the rate things are going, the money you're making on the appreciating stored gas in your tank will soon be enough to buy a brand new truck (maybe with a bigger tank to store fuel) Ha!
Kajtek1>filled up 100 gallons at 2 something.
Ah man, you doubled your money! That's gotta feel good, making 100 percent! See there is a brighter side to all this! Ha!
