Must be different out west. In Florida all the dealers I used gladly took the business. I bought for $15K less than Lazy Days would quote.

I have done a ton or warranty work for 13 brand name companies, not RV related... I doubt I ever made a nickel on a warranty repair... advertising is expensive and being a authorized service facility is like free advertising doing warranty work for your regular customers is and should always be a priority, it brings them back for non warranty service and parts... next in line would be off the road and over the counter sales followed brand owners and other warranty issues...

Rv's for local dealers are basically seasonal in nature even in the sun belt... you can't employ for and build facilities for the busiest month and have them idle for most of the year and having dozen's of employees filing unemployment claims half of the year and carry worker comp on the extra employees all year... there are a lot of reasons for things being the way they are...
all of the dealers will do the warranty work if they have the time and space to do it, but usually everyone else is using their RV the same time you are and wanting service the same time you are...

you need to put yourself in the shoes of the dealer that worked his whole life building a business and then having to all of a sudden compete with a discounter the is undercutting local dealers by not providing basic services and then telling buyers to take it to your local dealer for these lose-leader basic services...

every day someone comes in with a on line quote telling them they have to meet the price or else, then have the same guy come in a month later and try to tell the dealer he has to service the trailer... I can't begin to put into print here what my answer would be... sometimes there are actually customers you are better off without...

we all love wal-mart a (discounter)... when they move into a area their prices are lower than most other wal-marts, as the comp dries up their prices increase accordingly... I have three wal-marts all with-in 12 miles in different directions of me... all with different price structures based on local comp... once the Ames and K-marts close or move the price of everything goes up... the only thing that is the same price is the advertised items and I have seen one new store actually raise the price on a few electronics to match the advertised sale price...

the same thing is and will happen as a few more discounters get into the game and the good dealers find it no longer worth the effort to do it right...

in the end we lose...

as to bad dealers, there is no excuse for bad work in any business, I have been on the wrong end of bad service with RV and autos alike... some are so bad I don't know how they stay open...
but I think much of the problem is miscommunication generally on both sides... more the most part I have had very positive dealings with local dealers... both in price and service... to the point I actually just stop to visit or have lunch with them...

maybe I go overboard, but I go out of my way to tell a tech thank- you and even tip them modestly (enough for a beer on me)... in the end it has always paid dividends...

I can tell you, having to go to the mfg for warranty service is a real bummer... it requires two round trips or at least a few day in a hotel... do this just once it will make you think... do it twice or more and you will understand how I feel... I am not blaming a dealer or a discounter for this, but somehow it no longer feels good enough that they will work on it...

Wholesalers that allow people to do just what is being described here, make it very hard (and kind of unfair) on the local dealers. Tough to compete against someone that doesnt have to maintain a real service dept., inventory, etc., when you do have to maintain those things. Kind of scary to think about what this eventually could lead us to (very few if any local dealers, nothing but RV wholesalers with little or no service dept. and prices same as local dealers now....)

I bought our Rockwood from RVW. They are a full service dealer with full service service bays and a very well stocked parts and supplies department with very, very good pricing. They just happen to do a really good job at sales over the internet - just like any other dealer could do if they were smart at it... Enough of the free advertising. I'd buy from them again in a heartbeat.

We drove 1200 miles to save over $7000 a few years ago. When local dealer won't service under warranty, after initially setting up an appointment, we called manufacturer to complain and they sent us to ANY dealer of our choice, and they called and setup reimbursement to this dealer who didn't handle their product. We also called the BBB and lodged a legitimate complaint against the dealer refusing to do warranty work. Took him 2 years to get it off his BBB record.
In my opinion, as consumers, we need to make manuf. and dealers more accountable for their business practices. The purpose of a warranty is negated by the costs incurred by purchasers to use it, if they have to travel extreme lengths to get a vehicle repaired. Manuf. can also save everyone alot of hassle by inspecting and prepping their new rvs better at the factory. Quality control is just starting to catch up with the U.S. auto manuf. Maybe it will improve in rv's when Toyota and Honda start shipping rvs to the States?

No reason to worry.Just like the punch list on a new big house, you will probably have a few things to tweak in your new little house. You said you are handy and the majority of problems are usually simple fixes.I too purchased from an out of state wholesaler. The stealerships in my region(the closest is 2 hours away) wanted WAY OVER MSRP.One was asking $7,700.00 over MSRP on a 21' ultralight!.I would not trust this crook with my warranty work anyway.Relax, and enjoy your new RV.

what difference does that make... he is obviously a volume dealer to start with and is certainly smart enough to realize that running the a on-line discounter business is more profitable because of the lower cost to operate a internet business by eliminating the cost of the brick and mortar end of it... they are only a full service dealer to the portion of sales close enough to use it...

if you saved $7,000 by going to a discounter you must be talking one very expensive RV to start with, or like to compare apples (MSRP) to oranges (DISCOUNTERS SALE PRICE)... MSRP is a number that has little to no relation to a actual price...

if in fact the MFG set up reimbursement with a dealer of choice, I can guarantee you it was a negotiated price at a higher rate than normal warranty rates...

you filed a complaint with the BBB which is your right to do... but is was not a legitimate complaint, as he was under no contractual obligation to service you in a timely fashion...

while we as consumers need to make mfg's and dealers more accountable for their business practices, you lave out a very important detail... HE WASN'T AND ISN'T YOUR DEALER... and you just don't like the fact you can't stab him in the back and then him allow you to twist the blade...

the purpose of a warranty is to negated the cost incurred by purchasers... this is true as is the fact it is your responsibility to know what that warranty includes and excludes... your and my warranty only include they will fix it on a space available basis...
has anyone ever heard of reading the entire agreement before signing it... what a novel idea...
it makes no difference if it right or wrong, it is the way it is and it is what you agreed to under the terms of the deal but failed to make yourself aware of...

you can blame this dealer all you want and all of those that want their cake and eat it to will agree, but the reality is he owes you nothing, and you failed to explore these possibilities before buying...

if you are so correct you should have filed suit and you would have been able to collect tripe damages if you could prove you case... (tip save your time and money, you can't win)

MSRP=$62,000, Dealer 5mi away=$47,800, Texas Fun Time=$40,000

YES, and Hurrah for a savy Manuf.!
you filed a complaint with the BBB which is your right to do... but is was not a legitimate complaint, as he was under no contractual obligation to service you in a timely fashion...
With this limited info , you know if it was legitimate or not? BBB thought so and it was on dealer's record for 2 years? More of us should do same!

OOps sorry,he was contracted by manuf. to be my dealer during warranty period-duh!

What does this have to do with above-you need a new thread.
it makes no difference if it right or wrong, it is the way it is and it is what you agreed to under the terms of the deal but failed to make yourself aware of...
Right or wrong makes no difference in this world. To heck with morals?

you can blame this dealer all you want and all of those that want their cake and eat it to will agree, but the reality is he owes you nothing, and you failed to explore these possibilities before buying...
Blame a nasty dealer that set an appt. time, then refused me warranty work only when I showed up for sched. appt?

if you are so correct you should have filed suit and you would have been able to collect tripe damages if you could prove you case... (tip save your time and money, you can't win)

Pleeze, could win or stressed him out, but yes, time, money, aggravation, reduced camping time, not worth it, even if dealer had offered me a nice TRIPE meal!
Instead I warn every potential customer of his I meet to avoid the place, and why. This too is one of our buyer's options we should use judiously, but can be effective.
