The best advice I have for anyone interested in buying an RV is to visit an RV Show. The Dallas RV Show is a great one. Every make and model you can think of. You have so many options to choose from...you just have to have a list of the most important things to you (for me it was large bedroom, counter space, recliners, separate/closed bathroom, lots of storage). You will find everything under the sun and the prices at an RV show are normally pretty good!

Check out this website, www.rvbasics.com. There is a ton of info there, including How to Buy a Used RV. Good luck!

One of the resources I used when I was looking was the RV Consumer Group, which is an independent, nonprofit organization that's been rating RVs for over 20 years. I found their information to be very helpful.

One limiting factor is often your tow vehicle. Are you planning to use your current truck? If so, weight, especially pin weight, will limit your choice. If you won't be pulling with a dually, you'll be limited to smaller, lighter 5ers. Even 1-ton duallies are too small for some of the bigger full-time rigs.

All I can say is don't repeat what I have done. I started with a pop up, then a hybrid, then a travel trailer, and finally a 37' 5th wheel with four slides. I know what your thinking, that isn't so bad you have experienced four different style campers, well the problem is I did this in 15 months. My advice, get four slides and the floor plan that is more than you think you need right now and the size bigger than you think you want, because if you don't you will want it later.. In the long haul you will have saved $$$$$$. Good luck you will have fun finding it.

Start looking around at dealers and shows. Find the size and floor plan that you like. Make sure it has a good warranty and which dealers carry it, and research the dealer. Then find a truck that will actually handle the weight.
Good luck

Don't buy too large. We have been Full-timing for 13 years in a 30 foot 5'er with 2 slides. Works great and is easy to tow and move anytime, not to mention tow vehicles gets better fuel mileage with smaller RV's. Make sure you buy a 4 season RV that the manufacturer intended for full-timing when he designed it.

Check out the various Escapee Forums for first person experiences.
Head for all the shows & dealer lots you can find.
Save and catalog brochures.
Decide what you like - - and what you will need to tow it.

Got our 30 ft Montana + chevy 2500 6l gas combo off Craigs list! DW insists on buying NOTHING brand new that depreciates! Only one year out, 25,000 miles - LOVE it.
