We are thinking about a new fifth wheel.

How much discount off the MSRP can we expect to get?

What is difference if the one we purchase is on the dealer's lot already, or if we were to order one?

The one dealer we were talking to said not to expect much of a discount if you order one.

What kind of deals off the MSRP have you got? How much should we PUSH before we tic off the dealer?

I bought one that one one the dealers lot and ended up buying it for 33% under MSRP. I expect that you could get the same deal on ordering one. In that case the dealer is not going to have to put it in inventory, should be a sure sale.

We bought last month, did a factory order to get exactly the colors and options we wanted. I started off with a 35% off figure, they politely said no, came back with a 25% figure, I didn't bite. They never called me back. Went to a different dealer(same coach model), did a deal with them at 28%.

The best you can expect is all dependent upon how good a negotiator you are.

Folks who say they got 40% off or 25% off may be true; but you never know what their starting point was. So much is dependent upon if there is a trade in, how long the dealer has had a particular unit on the lot, if it is new used or a demo and even the time of year or month. There may be incentives available from the factory/ manufacturer that may be publicized or not.

I doubt very seriously if you can walk into most dealers and insist on a certain % off, if they are posting the actual MSRP on their units...

Go buy the one you like and pay for it however and then go RV'ing............

Get the MSRP sheet from the manufacturer, not the dealer. Call the Manufacturer and have them fax it to you. Pick your model and options from the sheet plus add frieght. Freight will be on the sheet. All options with MSRP for each will be listed. Take 30% off the total and take your list and your -30% figure and tell the dealer you're buying a new RV and this is the figure you're prepared to pay today. If he refuses leave your number and go home.

We went to an rv dealer here in Portland, was just looking at MH not really interested in buying. The sticker price on an 08 Monaco Knight 40 foot MH diesel was $243,000.00, they brought it down to 199,000.00, we said way too much and they offered 143,000.00 as a come back. Now that was some discount. Then they said payments were 1,100.00 a month. That brought us back to reality real quick. So think the deep discounts are there, dealer just has to be motivated to get it off of his lot

You can expect to get around 25%. I'd walk if it wasn't at least 25% off MSRP. Some manufactures you can do better, others not. Cheaper units will tend to have less head room but its pretty universal that you can find someone to sell you one at around 25% or so off the MSRP. Make sure its the actual MSRP and not some fluffed up price. You can do that by contacting multiple dealers and checking price sheets / options between them. Some manufacturers will give you them as well.
