With the fuel crunch and many RV dealers and manufacturers going out of business, you can almost ask whatever you want within reason. The dealers are hurting and their flooring costs are not going away. If the first dealer won't, another will! You can get a good deal on a factory order. After all, the order costs the dealer nothing but time to do the paperwork. Perhaps the dealer who said no discount on a factory order just wanted to move his inventory.

Bingo! I have a friend who works in the industry right now and he mirrors the above statement. Right now as far as buying anyway it's a buyers market driven by the faltering economy and driven home harder in the RV world by skyrocketing fuel costs. I guess we just have to decide once we get the deal can we afford it and afford to go anywhere in it lol?
I am amazed as a salesman how many people do not do their homework before buying an RV and spending this amount of money. If $1100 a month is not in your budget, why in the world are you looking at $249,000 motorhomes??.....Why in the world would you buy from a dealer that is going out of business??? Do you realize that if the coach is not PDI'd it will not be under warranty?? Try buying one and take it to another dealer to get things fixed that were not done at delivery. You may get lucky, but I would never take that chance. There are alot of factory incentives going on right now and it is a great time to buy a new RV. Expecting 40-50% discounts just isn't reality, if you are working off TRUE msrp. If you have done your homework, you will know what is going on. If you deal with a reputable dealer, they will help you. If you have a trade, you can bet it is not going to have an ACV (actual cash value) of what your internet nada guide says, it works both ways. If you divide msrp by 140%, this works out roughly the same as multiplying by .72, or 28%...a missguided advertisement. All this is JMHO from 15 years of RV sales. Buying an RV should and can be almost as pleasurable as using one. 25% off ( msrp X .75) is a minnie deal to the salesman and generally he will make a minimum commision. How much effort should he put out for $200-$500?? All this is a minor vent, but it irritates me to see false information, which can lead to bad experiences for the buyer and leave a bad feeling regarding this wonderful lifestyle that we all should love, including us "lips are moving, we are lying" salesmen, of which very many of us are not. Good luck to all you new buyers, but "Buyer beware"....do your research.

Rather worrying about the percent off of MSRP if it is real find the unit you want and make your best deal. If you don't feel it's good go somewhere else. If your happy then what does it matter what percent you saved. Most people overstate their savings anyway as a campfire conversation.

The sticker price on an 08 Monaco Knight 40 foot MH diesel was $243,000.00, they brought it down to 199,000.00, we said way too much and they offered 143,000.00 as a come back. Now that was some discount. Then they said payments were 1,100.00 a month. That brought us back to reality real quick. So think the deep discounts are there, dealer just has to be motivated to get it off of his lot
I wouldn't put any credence in that price. If true MSRP, that would equate to a 41%+ discount. I think you were a victim of a salesman who qualified you as "not a buyer" and in sales terms "low balled" you to qualify his thoughts.
Factually, no matter how bad the market, dealers can't lose money on units and stay in business. They will inventory fewer units and change the mix to less expensive units that are moving better. Most dealer inventories you see today are lighter in the top end Class A units and are heavier in TT's and fifth wheels. The market has been soft enough long enough that dealers have made those changes.
Who cares what everyone else it getting off MRSP. I would make a deal that I was happy with. If you worry that someone else made a better deal, it kinda taints your deal. If you like the unit and the payments then you made a good deal!

If true MSRP at $243,000, at $143,000, I'd of instantly put a non-refundable $100.00 deposit on it, at that price.
We just purchased a new 5er from a dealer here in Cincinnati yesterday. They used an MSRP that was about $10,000 below what two other dealers had quoted. Even so they gave us another 5$,000 off.
First, there are good dealers and bad dealers. I wouldn't depend on a dealer for information on prices. Use the Internet. Shop the wholesale on-line dealers for best prices. They will generally give you their best price up front. Take that information with you when you shop in person.
I shopped dealers on line from Florida to Texas and many places in between.
You didn't say what brand or model you wanted to purchase.
Skid Row Joe, as I said we weren't interested in buying a MH, (we are happy with our 5th wheel) was just looking anyway. I played the salesman's game, but when he said $1,100 a month, that stopped the game. Reality here we are. LOL That's why we didn't jump on it. We were just looking. And the person who said if you can't afford $1,100 a month why were you looking at MH. Gee haven't you ever just looked.?
