My view: scan them, take the pdf copy on a thumb drive. Leave the originals in safe deposit box at a bank. Why would you need a notarized copy? If stuff that bad happens, go back for the originals.
Same with your financial papers, stock certs, etc. Takes very little to turn them all electronic.

I have all originals with us. Originally I bought a case on QVC from Suzy Ormond when we were in Hurricane country right before we started FTing. The original hardsided one cracked, so I now use a briefcase.

This is kept in the case beside my bed In Case of Emergency. This means if we wake up to a burning RV or have to evacuate because of Mother Nature, I'm supposed to grab it as we climb out the window or leave through the front door.

Just like those on the News last night who had to evacuate during fires in FL, most don't think of what's important to them. One woman only had time to grab her Marine saber from Viet Nam. She came home to a burned out shell of a house.

But if I remember to grab it, I will have important papers, plus most of our PC files on Flash Drives inside the case. Quicken is also backupped online as added security.

We have everything with us in a fire resistant lock box. It is supposed to resist the temperature of a normal (whatever that is) fire for an hour or so as I recall.
They did specify the temperature it would resist but I don't recall what it is.

Besides the usual things like titles, social security cards, durable power of attorney for each other, and etc, we keep insurance policies and those kinds of things in it.

We keep everything with us. Accessible copies are on the computer with copies on CD's, kids also have copies of CD's. Originals are with us in a secure place.

Originals in a fire box which is located in a out of the way, hard to get to, low spot where hopefully it would survive a fire. We have on occassion needed birth certificate or other important papers - having them 3000 miles away in a safety deposit box doesn't seem practical to us.

We keep wills, titles, insurance papers in a fp box in the freezer at home. On the road passports and other important papers are kept in the mh freezer. Our attorney suggested the freezers as they usually don't burn in a fire.

I'm not sure about this advice. Too many RV fires start in the fridge!

Make sure you take the ORIGINAL of your Medical Power of Attorney ... so that your spouse can make some medical decisions for you, should the need arrive.
