We are looking to attempt a trash can turkey while camping this Memorial Day weekend, however, have been unable to locate a 10 gal (or 15 or 20 or....) non galvanized trash can. Have tried Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, True Value & Tractor Supply, even searched the net. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Do not know if there is a non galvanized metal trash can. We always built a very hot fire inside a new can to burn it out before using it to cook with.

As Johnna says, this is the way I do it and I have been cooking trash can turkeys for a long time. Just throw in some firewood and let it burn for a couple of hours. I like mesquite since it burns very hot. After the trash can cools, give it a good scrubbing with soap and water and it's ready to cook with.

I used a heavy duty galvanized mud grate once for a grill for steaks and we all got sick. Also from welding galvanized steel pipe. SO yes burn it out hot first or get a plain steel waste paper drum like used in schools from big office supply store.
