Here's a nice tip I discovered. I noticed that when where out camping and I pull out my tt's black shore-line electrical cable, it sometimes gets pulled across dirt and debris. Sometimes I have to drag it across old asphalt which is like sand paper.
So, I decided that I wanted to preserve the insulation on my cable. I went to a local electronics wherehouse and bought a 50' roll of the flexible plastic conduit stuff. (The stuff that has the open slit down the middle, used to bundle up electrical wires etc...)
Now, when I pull out my electrical cord from the trailer, I slip the flexible conduit around the cable and it allows me to "drag" the cord around any type of surface. The conduit protects my shoreline cable. I'd rather have to replace the conduit @ $11.00 per/50' length, than to have to replace the 30' tt shore-line cord.
Lastly in case you're wondering, "why are you always moving the shore-line cord around?" Well, I like to position my generator in constant shade. When I'm camping in an area that is void of much shade, I move the generator to shady spots. Frequently throughout the day I must move the genny to remain in the shade. Therefore, the shore-line cord gets dragged across the hot rough surfaces where we are camped at. I also figured that the conduit protects the cord from direct sun light and eventual cracking. My gennys sit on top of a wheeled platform, so moving them around is very simple.

Adam 12 your working too hard to be camping. I'm getting worn out just reading about moving gensets around to find the shady spot. They make portable tent style covers for gensets which would create shade. You could then leave cord alone and sit down and have a beer.

I'm really surprised more people aren't posting on here about stolen shore lines with the cost of copper. I'm half tempted to go buy a backup from WalMart just because I fear it's coming.

When I had my shoreline box apart recently for some plumbing work I black taped the heck out of a tennis ball to create a stopper at the maximum cord length. I now wish I had actually screwed to something solid to save my converter in case of theft. Jdubh2 is right shorelines will be a big target if the clowns ever figure it out.

Been Rving in various rigs for 30+ years. Never yet worn out a shore line. Never even noticed any wear. I think you are worrying too much. Relax.
