I know this is extremely late, but does anybody know of any campsites available for Memorial Day next weekend (May 23-26)? Looking in MD, PA, DE, and VA.
I called a few places last week. Found one at Lake in Wood campground near Reading. She said they had one other 30 amp site left. That was last Friday (5/9/08)
we are staying at Holiday Park in Greensboro, MD, just over the bay bridge outside of Denton. We made our reservations a couple months ago. we had tried several other campgrounds but all were booked up. this is a family owned basic campground. they do not have sewer sites, but will come to your site to pump you out each day. you may try them. www.holidaypark.com
i doubt that Granite Hill in Gettysburg will have anything, they are popular. Good luck.

They are indeed a popular place. My buddy has a friend who just got a TT (graduated from pop-up)and he drove up to GH last week and asked about them sharing his site. "No problem" he was told. They also told him that they had seen a bunch of cancellations due to fuel prices.
Come to Centre County, PA! Celebrate Memorial Day where it all started -- in Boalsburg, PA. Many community activities will be planned including presentations by a Civil War reenactment squad.
You should be able to find a spot at Poe Valley State Park, or Poe Paddy. Also Bald Eagle State Park, or Black Moshannon. Privately, outside of Bellefonte there is the Bellefonte KOA, or the less expensive Fort Bellefont.
And if that doesn't quite suit you, Centre County has a few other offerings: Take your pick.
Buy a copy of The Centre Daily Times as soon as you hit town. Check the ads. If you like live theatre, there are at least half a dozen to choose from. "Lend Me A Tenor" might be playing downtown then. It's a funny show! Also check performances at the Bryce Jordan Center. Boal Barn, Millbrook theatres, etc. Catch a minor league baseball game. The Spikes VS ???
Too many good restaurants to count, but do try Baby's Burgers in town for that "fifties" experience! Also The Tavern*. *unlimited side dishes with entree. The Corner Room, perhaps, but definitely THE COLLEGE DINER FOR THEIR GRILLED STICKIES!!! I could probably continue, but you'd have to stay longer. (Really good fishing around the area.) Oops, enough already. PS I'm a few miles south of you in Estero, enjoying the last of the winter before heading home.
Enjoy your visit to Centre County! Visit Boalsburg, the birthplace of Memorial Day, the Military Museum in Boalsburg, the Christopher Columbus Chapel, downtown, etc. They always have "big doin's" in Boalsburg that weekend.
Visit Penns Cave if you've never been. It's the country's only all-water, underground cavern. You travel through it by boat -- underground! Visit Poe Paddy and take a 30 minute tube ride around the mountain. Get out of the water at the first hunting cabin, walk to the railroad tracks, then through the tunnel, and in five minutes, you're back where you started.
Have dinner at the Eutaw House on the way back. E. A. Poe is reputed to have stayed there. Visit Beaver Stadium. The Lion weathervane is supposed to be the second-largest animal weathervane in the country. (I have no idea where I got that information.) Definitely, visit The Creamery on the PSU campus for the best ice cream cone you've ever tasted. Ben & Jerry learned to make ice cream here.
Drive through historic, Victorian Bellefonte, home of five Pennsylvania governors. The mansions along Allegheny, Curtin, and Linn Streets are an experience. Drive around the courthouse -- seriously. And at the top, take the narrow road to the right and you will drive down an alley so steep that the people in the back seat will scream. (Heck, even your front seat passenger will be nervous.) Visit Talleyrand Park, home of the Big Spring, and the train station. Go for a ride if it's running that day. Feed the HUGE trout in Spring Creek. (Locals call it Spring "Crick.")
Visit the fish hatchery. Have lunch at the Gamble Mill -- or try a Bonfatto's Italian sub. Or drive a few miles (2-3) north to Milesburg for an original Miller's Hoagie! They had a patent on the name "Hoagie."
Best to just call around. I called and got a full hook up site at Buena Vista CG in Southern Jersey, she said it was their last one but I can not be sure.

Poe Valley State Park will undergo renovations and upgrades to park facilities during 2008 and possibly continue into 2009. This will necessitate a complete closure of the park for the entire 2008 year.
