In California being self-employed I dictate my vacation times. Since my wife share love for travel, we average about 45 days for recreation every year.
It happen to us to take 6 weeks continuous vacation more than once.
Than I heard about people growing up in Oakland and at the age of 25 have never been to San Francisco. 1/2 hour drive.... By the time my daughter was 8 y.o........She'd been more places than most of the adults we know....Some have NEVER been out of Mendocino County...I find that REALLY sad!

I've been at my job a while and I get nearly 9 weeks of paid time off a year. Sometimes I take a day at a time, sometimes an hour. I have taken several 2 week vacations and never had any bad feedback about it.

I guess I have fallen into the trap also. I take a day every couple or 3 weeks in the summer to run up to our fav. CG, and a week a year when I get too close to maxing out my vacation time. DW has pushed me to take almost 2 weeks (7 work days) starting Saturday, and I am panicking. Dunno if that is dumber than my loading up Saturday to drive through Tornado Alley during one of the worst tornado years on record, but yep, dumb.

No you are not odd.
I worked for a number of years after retirement for Corporate America and I quit many jobs just to get a break and do something else.
One day I asked myself "why are you working anyway?" and I bailed. My back was starting to bother me anyway so it was time.
Now were are getting ready to head out full time for some time we hope.

I get 3 weeks vacation per year. I usually take all or most of it at one time for a nice long trip. After I use up the paid vacation time I will normally take about 4 to 5 weeks unpaid time off, 2 or 3 days here, 3 or 4 days here, just to take shorter trips for R & R. Never have had a complaint from my employer. Boy, I sure do love the casino industry.

When I started at the USPS in March 1973 I had four weeks vacation because after 3 years you get 160 hours AL (annual leave) and I had three years in the Army (1965-1968). I took most of my vacation in Florida or Maine & NH the first few years but I started taking trips out west in 1978 with my longest one of four weeks in 1986 because by 1984 I was getting 208 hours AL (4 weeks & 1 day). In 2001 my last year I worked Sep 1 and then took the rest of September off and retired Oct 1. I was short a few days AL so I paid cash for the last few days vacation . BTW my first vacation after I retired was in Nov 2001 to Australia.
