Right now, I am hanging my cord over the tail gate, the cord hangs pretty low towards the ground. I am looking to either put a plug into my bed or plug in a longer cord and run it under my tail gate. Which way is easier,or better??

I have a large spring attached to mine to take up the slack but still allow full movement if needed.

I added a plug inside the bed of my truck. I went on-line to E-trailer.com. They sell the plug and a "T" connector that plugs and plays with the factory wire harness, no cutting or splicing needed. Your factory plug on the bumper works in addition to the plug in the bed. Works Great. I recommend the in bed plug. I didn't like the cord rubbing the tailgate and it looks much nicer in the bed.
Good Luck

You should search this forum for this topic. There have been several threads with posts of pictures of places people put the plugs.

That being said, all of my trucks have the plug in the bed in the driver side corner post next to the tailgate. I recommend that location, secure your cable down the back center of the pin box so that you have very little distance change as you turn. The cable should hang down right behind the hitch, run over to the corner post and plug in.

My truck gets used as it was intended, which is hauling stuff in its bed. Way to much firewood/dirt/gravel/mulch/etc in the bed for me to have the trailer socket in the mix also. I just let the cord hang and haven't had any problems.

Connector in the bed works way better for me.
Call etrailer.com and get a plug and play self install connector.
They also have a 7' extention if you really want to fiddle with it.

Another advocate for the in-bed connection. Ours is right behind the wheelwell on the driver's side so I can do the hitch handle and plug from the same position.

Works great for us!

Like joshjack says, lots of discussion on this topic elsewhere, with lots of good info. Search for the plug connector.

My connection is in the bed. I have it just ahead of the wheel well, because I have behind the wheel well tool boxes.
I have seen 2 different units over the years unplugged hanging over tail gate. One of them was when the tail gate slammed open and jerked it out. I noticed and told them as they pulled into the gas station. They were lucky that the gate didn't hit the 5er, or cause any traffic problems.

I see you have a Ford; on my 02 ford there is a hole through the bed just under the bed rail into the left stop/turn light box. The bottom of the light box is open so it is easy to run a cable through the hole, under the bed and over the 4” receiver to the existing factory 7-pin connector. I installed a plug on the cable to mate with the factory 7-pin and on the other end a plug to mate with the trailer. The mating trailer plug came with a 90 deg mounting bracket that I used to mount the connector under the bead rail.
