The average passenger vehicle in the USA get's 26.7 MPG. The average RV gets 8 MPG. That means it cost three times as much (on Average) to drive and RV than a average passenger vehicle. The current cost per mile for an RV is 50 cents per mile. A little more for diesel and a little less for gasoline.

OK!! I have my own bed, food, comfort, and when was the last time you ever talked to the person in the motel room next to you? The last time I stayed in a hotel ($240 per night) they even furnished us with bed bugs and that hasn't happened in the MH. At $2.00 per gallon it still costs 3 times as much in the RV. So What?

Not ONE PERSON on this forum will argue that rving is not expensive. Fuel is expensive, RVs are expensive, Tow vehicles are expensive, and now campgrounds are getting more expensive to stay at too. We all love Rving. As costs get higher some will give it up. Others will not. It all comes down to how much each of us will pay to continue our hobby/lifestyle. Personally paying an extra $20 to fill up for the weekend will not stop me any time soon.

As already stated, people don't RV to save money. It's a RECREATION. A lot of people in fact leave the RV home when traveling because of the cost.

OK, which costs more? A car getting 26 MPG with 1 passenger or an RV with 4 passengers getting 7 MPG? The majority of cars are driven to work with only one passenger. Most RVs have 2 or more when they travel. Airlines compute fuel consumption as passenger miles per gallon, maybe we should do the same.

What "Bumpy" said!!! I don't see yer point?

FWIW: We're going on a 2000 mile trip to OKC and back next week with the 5'er. We compared the RV trip cost to that of flying, a hotel for a week, restaurants, and rental car for a week. The RV trip, even if diesel hit's $5 a gallon while we're enroute, will still cost us less than flying. We average a solid 11 MPG towing and budget for 10 MPG. Taking the 5'er, we have our own bed, own food, own shower, own pooper, and own schedule. Sorry, if diesel hit's $10 a gallon, we'll still go but just stay longer.

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!
