Sooooooo------If I want to go to the grocery store or mall and shop, I will drive a car. If I want to go camping and have a nice clean place to sleep when and where I want and have a kitchen to eat in and a comfortable chair to sit in - I will drive the RV......

They are two different vehicles designed for different things. It's sort of like saying that my RV gets 8 mpg and a a huge construction earth mover gets 2 mpg???? I don't really get your point.

This cost talk is getting really old.

You have two choices:

1. Give up and hide in a hole.
2. Forget about the added expense and have fun.

As already stated, people don't RV to save money. It's a RECREATION. A lot of people in fact leave the RV home when traveling because of the cost.

I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again the OP's assertions are not based on facts, just his imagination. The AVERAGE American automobile does not quite reach his figure, and the entire American fleet of privately owned automobiles does nor achieve close to his figure. And many, many RV's fuel consumption is much higher than his estimate.

But so what! What does it matter? The comparasion is just not valid because there are no similarities between a car and a RV. I guess he could compare the fuel consumption of a motor scooter to a tractor trailer truck. Yes, one does burn more fuel than the other. DUH!

The average passenger vehicle in the USA get's 26.7 MPG. The average RV gets 8 MPG. That means it cost three times as much (on Average) to drive and RV than a average passenger vehicle. The current cost per mile for an RV is 50 cents per mile. A little more for diesel and a little less for gasoline.

If you were trying to make a point I didn't get it. What is your point?

Why do people complain about RV'S? I happen to live on a lake and on any given day there are thousnads of boats using 3 to 4 times more gas than my RV.

I know that as a fact because I also own a boat,

Airlines compute fuel consumption as passenger miles per gallon, maybe we should do the same.

Just curious, what do airlines claim their passenger MPG is?

The numbers I found on a Google search were between 50 and 70 passenger MPG. But they put out a significant amount of CO2 pollution so there is a downside. This number is also for longer flights, short flights use a lot more fuel because the have to "go uphill" more often. Jets are very thrifty once they get cruising at altitude.
