We are wondering about the "water" question. Our friends never use the water in their holding tank for cooking - they always buy bottled water. I'm just wondering, if you have sanitized your tank and lines, why shouldn't you use the water if it is from a good source? We are planning our first trip and are going to fill the fresh water tank with water from our well - we use it for everything here at home so wouldn't it be okay?

Your water will be fine.

I don't usually drink the water from my tank because we've been known to let it sit for a week or so.... it's not "fresh" in my mind. I WILL drink campground water when directly connected, using the faucet-mounted filter we installed. And if we're just going away for a weekend, I'm basically lazy and find it easier to tote along bottles of water from home rather than sanitize the tank.

As someone else pointed out - I'd rather NOT deal with an upset tummy while traveling.... even though the chances are probably slim....

I sanitize the tank at the start of season (About 3 weeks ago) and use a good filter on the inlet line when hooked to park, I've never had a problem with water related issues doing this. I also use a BRITA (tm) filter for drinking water within the rig. I really like what Brita filters do to the water.

Wife buys bottled water

Odds are I'm getting water more pure than she is (I have read the studies) She still buys bottled water

Consider this.. We are crying about 4.00/gallon fuel just now

But at 1.00/12 oz, that is over 10.00/gallon FOR WATER

Of course if you get your water at Sams or Costco (Say 35 12 oz bottles for six or seven bucks) it's a bit less expensive But Wife don't shop Costco.

According to our water department, the government estimates that 40% of bottled water is somebody else's tap water. (The water department felt that 25% is closer.)

And if you are worried about the price of oil, consider how much of it goes to make all those little plastic bottles.

We also use the pitcher with the Brita Filter. It seems to do a good job with no after taste. We do take bottled water but use it mostly while hiking or sightseeing.

We've used the water from our tank or from the campground supply without ever a problem. Some campground supply does have a strong mineral flavor. For that we installed a water filter with activated charcoal that removes "taste" as well as particulates.

Some people are just too picky. If they had a look at the insides of their home water pipes or their hometown water mains....

All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

We don't drink out of the tank or from CG wells. We drink/cook with bottled water and use the tank/CG well water to shower and wash dishes. I sanitize at least 2 times a season.

We use the water from the tank and from whatever RV park we are at.
If the local people can drink it so can I.

With the inline filtration system, I don't worry one bit about CG water or from my tank. I do "shock" my tank and lines at the beginning and mid season as well as I grew up with well water and am just used to doing that. I have never gotten ill.

We drink the water. Anywhere, anytime. With no filter. I do sanitize the system annually, but have never hesitated to use "local" water. I've even refilled from mountain springs. But then again, Colorado has the best water anywhere!

I have an inline filter that I use to fill the tank or hook to a CG supply. I have a Brita I keep in the fridge for cold drinking water.. been doing this for 15 years.. No problems whatsoever. Bottled water is only for the convenience of having that little plastic "security blanket" to carry around. It makes my DW happy so we always pack a few. I think it is a waste of money.
