has anyone camped up in the UP in july? If so how are the bugs? I heard they can be very bad? thanks

Yes, the bugs can get bad. You just have prepare, have bug juice available, and accept our state bird.....er bug.

The beauty of the UP is well worth the bugs......

The later in July the better, generally. Mosquitos are always bad, but you should be used to that, being from IL. Black fly season I think is usually over by mid-July or so.

Yeah the bugs can be bad, I found it the past mostly when camping on the beaches of Lake Superior.

Just stay away from "Camp Gitche-Gumee" on Hwy 28 just east of Harvey/Marquette. The place is a rip off!
