LOL. Typical to call a guy names when you want someone else to fix your problem for you.
Yes, I do go out and do something. I save resources where I need to and I make money where I need to. I also donate to things that I feel strongly about (and politics is not one of them). I run my own business as well as hold down a job working for someone else. Both are things I like to do.
Go ahead and use the 'poor' people as a reason to get the government to step in and do something. If you want to help the 'poor' people then go do it. Donate a fuel efficient car to a family. Pay for someone's gas for a year. You can do it. I have. What I don't agree is that you should take my money and tell me what to do with it through 'taxed donations'.
Want to do more? Invest in a company looking at more efficient alternatives. I do, through my job. The company I work for invests millions in alternative energy work and I am a part of that. Hopefully there will be a payoff from that. Interesting that the money the company uses for that is indirectly government money. Make a profit from the government on one product and use some of the profits to invest in something else.
Why would a company invest in alternative energy sources? Why, to make a huge profit. If there was no possibility of a huge profit there would be no investment.
I don't like the government to 'help' when there is no need. They usually turn it into a buy out program without accomplishing anything. Oil subsidies, tax breaks, farm subsidies, fooling with interest rates, etc are all examples of the government using their 'good intentions' to screw something up. Just look at what the current candidates are talking about for solutions. All rubbish.
If you want the price of oil to go down, then demand has to go down. It really is simple.

I'm completely flabbergasted by the attacks here on wing_zealot. If you feel there is so much money to be made in oil trading, by all means, do it yourself. Does anybody here have a 401K? Why do you have it? Isn't the goal there to buy and trade stocks/commodities to make a profit? Maybe you'll argue you don't actively trade within your 401K. That may be true, but the money managers of our funds do, and we're paying them to do it for us! Shame on all of us for being so greedy.
Traders or not, all of us here are oil consumers. That is also a form of trade. We buy fuel, but instead of selling it later, we simply use it. When we go to the gas pump, we willingly hand over our hard-earned cash to fill our tanks. Nobody is forcing us to buy it.
Some say they need fuel. Perhaps, but certainly not in the quantities we're buying. I for one, am cutting my fuel usage as much as I am willing to -- for the amount I'm not willing to cut, I pony up and pay for it. Do you need to drive across town to get to your favorite store? Do you need to go camping? Do you need to drive your own car instead of carpooling, taking a bus, or riding a bike? Of course not. I do all these things, too, but I recognize them as luxuries I'm willing to pay for. That's what drives supply and demand. As long as I'm a willing buyer of that fuel, then I have voted with my wallet that I believe it to be a fair price. It I don't think the price is fair, I won't buy it. Do not confuse this with wanting it for less. We all want it for less. But everytime we buy fuel, we are placing a value on it that says it's worth more to us than whatever else that money could've bought. Everything else is just whining.
There are alternatives to our fuel consumption. The vast majority of us, myself included, may not like any of those alternatives, but we do have choices. My choice is to pay (and whine about it). What's yours?
