After crunching the numbers for gas purchases on a 1680 mile round trip towing our TT, it was gonna cost us about $850.00. And that's not even counting any side trips we might have made while up at Lake Itasca.
We have decided to go to the lake of the Ozarks state park here in Missouri instead. Only 120 miles, we really like the area, and we have never camped at the park down there. In any case, saving over $700.00 in gas money will help ease the pain of not going to Minnesota this year.
Maybe next year . . . .

With the price of gas, I think a lot of RV'ers will be taking vacations in their home states this year.

I stayed at the hotel right by LOZ SP a couple of years ago fishing a bass tournament and thought it would be a fantastic place to camp. Met one of the nicest older gentlemen there, nice people!

You may be better off in MO, there are currently few signs that there will be a summer in the upper mid-west this year.

We would hate to get up there at Lake Itasca in mid-June only to have it be unseasonably cold and wet like it is here at the moment.

We're staying just 45 minutes from home for about 30 days. We will not cancel our two week trip in mid-July to see our granddaughter in Louisiana. Whatever gas is, it's a no-brainer. It will be over 1 year and a half since we've seen her. We've already made reservations for next summer for our local campground for the entire summer.

Makes me glad we stuck with the popup and minivan all this time. We expect to pay about $850 in gas to drive all the way from Chicago to western Montana and back this summer. That's if it is about $4.00 a gallon.

We've had about 4 days of spring so far! Now looks like we're finally going to get some warmer weather, but with all the moisture we now will be watching for the thunderstorms etc. I know what you mean...a much cooler and wetter "spring".
Don't travel much anymore. Might take the rig to Billings, Mt. to see the kids and that's about it.
