I have done some searching on emergency road services, but I haven't seen any posts on this particular issue. Has anyone here had to use their ERS to locate and purchase a new tire after having a flat on the road? How did it work out? Did you have problems? Was the ERS provider helpful? Which ERS do you have?
You might be far better off obtaining a "national account" thru your local tire dealer if you get good prices thru him. That way you pay the price you would pay your Goodyear or Michelin dealer at home for both tire and service call. I would consider this in addition to the ERS, using the ERS for everything else. Your ERS might even pick up the service call charge. You have to remember that the ERS is nothing but a "go between" and does not have access to the various tire warehouse inventories. They pick up the phone and call around to people they have contracts with.

We have Good Sam ERS and they put us in touch with the tire dealer and they brought out the tire mounted and inflated it put it on the coach all with in an hour and a half. The only charge was for the tire and it was an competitive price. Good Sam also called back to check if the service was done and we were safe. Have fun
I recently decided to get an ERS, after checking a few out and talking to other RVers I decided to go with Good Sam. Just 2 weeks after getting the ERS I had a flat rear inner tire on top of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I limped down to the toll plaza and got off the road and called Good Sam. It was on a Sunday at about 2pm and I was on hold for about 20 minutes until I spoke with someone. I was not to happy about being on hold for that long but the service I received after well made up for it. I like many of you do not have a spare tire on my DP, he called 4 places and finally found one that had a tire to match. Only this mobile tire company was not a member of the Good Sam network. Good Sam explained to me that I would have to pay for the entire service call and the tire and would then have to submit the bill for reimbursement. It was either that or be towed to one of the tire dealers on there network and have the work done on Monday. I had the mobile come out and change the tire, I was on my way in about 2 hours. When I returned home I sent the bill to GS and within 10 days I had a check in the mail for the entire bill less the price of the tire(which was very fair). So I would recommend GS any time.
ERS calls the road service for you, and they then call you. My last time was a blowout in California. I requested Les Schwab. A Les Schwab that was the nearest to my location called back a while later and asked what tire size, tire brand, whether the Alcoa wheel was hub or lug piloted, etc. (The aluminum wheel was mutilated in its tireless 60MPH trip to the shoulder)
ERS takes care of the payment directly with your chosen road service or mobile repair operator. You have to pay only for the tire, wheel, whatever repairs are done, not the costs involved with the service truck coming out.
