Wanting to take a camping trip for about 4 to 5 days in July with the family. Don't want to go to the coast but would like to stay within 6 hours of home. We are in Cental Valley California. Was thinking about the east side of the sierras along US-395. Anyone know offhand of any full hook up RV parks or campsites. Thanks...

It might be a bit hot during that time of year. I don't have any experience with these grounds but my inlaws stayed at the Boulder Creek Park and enjoyed their stay.

I love camping on the Eastern Sierra, you have a good idea even if it will be hot.

There is 1 by Lone Pine across the highway from Diaz lake. 1 in downtown Bishop. While you are in Lone Pine check out the movie museum. Also the Mt. Whitnet cafe. The walls are covered with western movie memorabilia.
My senior brain won't let me remember the names. We also stayed 2 nights in a trailer park next door to Schratts bakery, middle of Bishop. They have a few aovernighter spots. A little stream runs right benind your parking place. Walk to the bakery. Further North there is 1 by June lake . Enjoy

There are three parks in Bishop. Starting from the south is Brownstown, Lots of shade and grass. Interior roads are dirt. No sewer hookup but there is a dump station for an extra charge and they charge for showers. Diamond J is in the center of town. As was said there is a creek running through it. Lots of shade. This is an older park and part of a mobile home park. On the north end of town is Highlands RV park, they have full hookups. There are some full timers but the place is kept up and they are not allowed to spread out. North of town is the millpond this is a county park the campground is run by the brownstown folks so again there are extra charges.

Bishop is a good base to see the Eastern Sierra. Its an hour to Lone Pine and an hour to Mono Lake. A day trip to tuolumne meadows in Yosemite is also easy.

Be ready for 100+ temps. Boulder Creek in Lone Pine is all dirt, and there are some severe winds in the Owens Valley, so be ready for that.

My first choice would without a doubt be Mono Vista RV park in Lee Vining. It is grassy, shaded and has full hookups. IMO the only thing keeping it from a "10" is lack of pool. According to streets and trips, its 204 miles via Yosemite from Visalia, which you should be able to do in about 6 hours if you don't stop. Might be a bit longer, since speed limits in the park are going to slow you down, but not much.

Lee Vining will be a great home base for a lot of great sight seeing. You have Bodie, Mammoth Lakes, Mono Lake, Yosemite, all within easy driving distance.

Keep going on the road past Mammoth lakes and go to Red's Meadow and hike to Rainbow falls and Devil's postpile. At Mono lake you can swim at Navy Beach and see how well you float in the higher salt content water.

Bodie is a wonderfully preserved ghost town, take the stamp mill tour. A hike through Toulumne Meadows in Yosemite is a great experience, be sure to go to the top of lembert dome if you are up for it, not really too hard.

Anyway, there is more to see and do within 100 miles of Lee Vining than I can possibly type here.

I agree with hodrod4x5. Any RV park in the Owens Valley, basically the Eastern Sierra south of Bishop will be very hot during the summer. For cooler weather, and for more to see and do, stay somewhere in Mono County, north of Crowley Lake.
