well, I just saw my first two stations up here in the North East coming in at 4.89 for diesel.I cant believe how close we are to the dredded 5.00 mark

Some are at 4.87 in the burbs, but some are at 4.34 yet. DO NO WORRY, they will catch up. Just think, last week I was paying 3.99, and in ONE day it went to 4.59. That is a 60 cents jump.
Just think of the THOUSANDS of truckers, who fill there tanks, $1,500 PLUS.

I sure wish that we could put a stop to oil futures trading. It would help keep the cost of fuel more realisitic.

It's a coming. And, from what I here coming from the Oil Giants in Alaska, in six months from now, you would pleased as punch to pay 5 bucks a gallon. Doubling that figure is what is expected by late fall. Bush communities in Alaska already surpass that, but some of the lucky ones are subsidized by the Federal Govt, to help offset the costs. Someone has to pay the difference, and that is all the working class.

How and why?

Futures traders don't hold oil. They buy and sell, or sell and buy, the contracts. They don't care if the price goes up or down, just as long as the price moves, and moves in the direction they're betting on.

Yes, we need tighter regulation of trading, but that isn't the problem. Anyone who tells you that there is one reason for high oil prices is lying to you. The main reason is that world wide demand for oil is rising, and the producers are slow to raise production rates while they're grinning from ear to ear on their way to the bank. It is also somewhat the problem that many oil fields cannot pump at a faster rate without damaging the field. This is the case in some of the big Saudi oil fields, plus civil unrest in Nigeria, ditto in Sudan and Chad, some very expensive-to-process crudes from Canada and Venezuela, and other good reasons. And, of course, the world's second largest reserves of light sweet crude oil (the best type) is trapped in Iraq due to a war--the trapped oil being the oil companies dream come true with their existing reserves skyrocketing in value.

All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.
