Do I need this if I also have cellular internet capability? I always check local weather via the internet. Of course, this won't help me if I am asleep. Another thought: do they make a GPS that comes with a weather alert radio? Seems like I keep buying more and more gadgets!

Ever since we started camping in our tent, we've always had a weather alert radio with us and turned on to "alert" mode. We just feel safer with it. There have been numerous times when we couldn't get a signal.

I just spent a harrowing first weekend in our new (to us) pop up down in Branson, MO last week when the weather turned nasty. I used my Sprint phone to watch radar, get updates, but I sure wish I had a weather radio at that time. We had to seek shelter in a laundry room when the warnings were issued. My two cents....get a good ac/dc weather radio.

yes, in my opinion...worth every penny if you get the Alert Beep & update that saves your life.

I would get it. We have quite a few times the cell phone would not work or the WIFI and the weather radios saved us.

I have two Radio Shack weather radios(one for my car and one for home), but I also have the hand-held 2-way radios that someone just mentioned...and it has the Weather Alert Channel. Both work well.
Maybe keep the receipt, turn to the Weather Alert Channel and ensure it works?

I would recommend a Weather Alert radio capable of 12 volt (or an adapter) operation. I do not recommend a multi-purpose device.
The reason is this.. If you are doing "Something else" with the multi-purpose device when the alarm is sounded.. You might not get the alarm
Thus, though I have THREE different "Multi" devices.. I also have one dedicated weather alert radio in the Motor home.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business
