We enjoy going with family or friends 2-3 weekends a season. I can only take about 3-days worth of company at a time before I need some space. For race weekends, it is only ever with my race buddies; usually there is 4 of us.

When you guys/gals go camping, do you prefer going with your family only or do you have "camping buddies"?

good question.
we started camping in the late '40s with familly (aunts/uncles/cousins/gradparents as my dad was on the creek bank fishing or hunting every weekend. So familly camping/fishin'/huntin' was a big part of our kids life as they grew up. The youngest left home after graduating in the early '80s. Those old aunts and uncles are all gone now and as the familly elders we just camp on occasion. We arn't social campers as we have been through all that. We like the laid back pease and quiet campgrounds anymore (if we can find one).

We prefer traveling/camping as a "family", me, the DW, and our two girls (Bichons). We do enjoy socializing with others and have met many great folks during our travels. However, we're happier by ourselves, doing what we please and when, without coordinating with others. After 40-years of dancing to the tune of others, we fly solo!

My wife & I have camped alone, with my brothers, & with close friends. We usually go away for about 3 months & spend most of the time alone. We spend about a month with very close friends & a couple of weeks with my brothers. We enjoy the time alone the most. We always look forward to seeing friends & family but really enjoy the freedom of going where we want to go & doing what we want to do. It is difficult arranging activities that accomodate everyone's needs. Traveling on the road with others can be very diffficult. Different speeds on the roads for each of us and a desire to see things that others don't want to stop for can create tensions. Plus, I like to travel till dark or later & my friends want to leave each day late in the morning & stop early in the afternoon. Fortunately, we are blessed with wonderful relatives who love to RV & close friends that we reallly enjoy. Still, traveling alone is the best, tempered by quality time with relatives & friends..

While I prefer going with close friends, I totally agree with your above statement. We have gotten too use to planning our trips around other peoples schedules. It's getting to the point now where we are going to start planning trips around OUR schedule and if our friends can't go, so be it. If they can, great. All I know is I did not buy my 5er to let it waste away in storage. My daughter absolutely loves to camp so if it's just me and her that would be great too.....

We take one trip a year to see Family in the states and even then we don't stay at the same campground as they are at. We do try and spread out our time with different family members but it is nice to go back to our bed and just relax when we need to be left alone. Don't get me wrong..we love the family just in small doses cause everyone seem's to think they are more important than the next person.
We do love to travel and see the sights and we do this alone without other rv'ers..easier pace and less time trying to talk the other into doing what we like to do or they like to do.
We have stayed in the same campground as the inlaws for a month last year..next sight over..and that changed this year..stayed on the other side of the campground..worked out much better. Do you know how hard it is to tell someone who's 80 years old that you want to just relax and watch TV for the night or that you want to cook your own food and eat it when You want to? It's pretty hard when your trying to not get upset so easier to just not go there.
JMHO but my vote is for Going on our own and enjoying the time together.

A few of you will notice your post is gone. Others will note that I edited out the part that referrred to that post. If you have nothing to add to the thread, then add nothing. The type of post that I deleted will always be deleted by me because it was not on topic, was flaming and generally added little to the thread. Have any questions? PM me or ADMIN and it will be made clear!!

We made reservations at a State Park for later this summer: 2 Camping Cabins plus 2 sites, so that ALL our adult kids and grandkids can experience "camping". I think it's going to be fun!! So many times, when it's just the two of us, I'll be somewhere and think "wouldn't the grandkids have fun doing this???"

We also have camped with 2 other couples - but we go to a Casino RV Park - so I'm not sure how much "camping" we really do....LOL!!

But our sightseeing trips we do alone - mainly because we have NO itinerary....we just travel whenever/wherever. Not sure how to jibe "our style" with other folks'? I mean, last fall, Hubby says, at 4 PM on a Sunday: "Let's go to Nova Scotia" and we left 2 days later....
