I would document everything, put it all together in a nice little portfolio and send it postage paid with signature due upon reciept to your State's highest consumer division, here in Maine it is the Attorney General's Office.
The combo of a fudged install on the hitch and awning make me think someone will review the issue. I wouldn't shy away from your own lawyer to draft a letter and send it to the dealer.

The manufacturer has NO responsibility for dealer-installed options.
The dealer is clearly at fault.
After I read about the wind-sensor and remote not even being installed, it sounds like the dealer hasn't a clue on these electric awnings.
If this was my coach and the dealer gave me an attitude, I would go to a competent repair center, get an estimate to correct the problem and then insist the dealer re-imburse you for the correction.
If the dealer refuses, I would then file in small-claims court.
It amazes me that in these times of recesion in the RV market, a dealer would act like yours since the customer has the power of "Word-Of-Mouth" advertising.

dvdriz wrote: OK I found the installation instructions for the power awning and it should be mounted a minimum of 12 3/4" above the door frame and add another 2" if the door falls in the center, which it does. I measured it and the awning was mounted 9 1/2" above the door by my dealer. That makes it almost 5" too low! I wrote the CEO/Owner of the dealer a letter so we will see what happens from here. Clearly a gross error on the dealer's part. More to follow...
Show this to a Small-Claims Court judge and you have won your case!
It's a shame that only the threat of legal action is sometimes the only thing that will correct someone elses faults.

While your doing that get a letter from reese saying the hitch is too small and is a hazard not only to you but all other traffic on the hiways. It doesn't matter what kind of deal they worked out with you,it's their responsibility to put the correct hitch to pull the coach. That is unless you specified that hitch then i think you are on your own.

I agree with Delawarecamper, share this with Trailer Life they have an excellent record with these types of issues. I am sure the dealer doesn't want that kind of publicity.
You may also want to share with the local Better Business Bureau.
Good luck

To think, I thought of buying from them (cheaper) and going to pick up my 5er when it was ready! I'm sure glad I didn't do that. Pilgrim is VERY good at getting stuff fixed, when it is their mess up, clearly, if the dealer installed this as an aftermarket item, as an upgrade in the contract or any other, they are very much at fault and liable. As for the hitch, are we talking about the in bed hitch? How would they have even let you off the lot with a hitch that is not rated for what it is towing? I hope you have all of the paperwork showing exactly what was installed and by whom. RV action line would be my next course of action and an attorney.

I sent a certified letter to my dealer since they have not responded to my previous requests to fix the dangerous hitch situation and fix the power awning. This will get to a point where I won't be able to post any more details for obvious reasons but for now we will have some fun with it. I will keep you posted on what happens.

I spoke directly with the owner of my RV dealership and he is handling this situation personally. I am being sent a hitch rated to tow my fiver back to Michigan. They have promised to then fix the power awning issue. I am very pleased and relieved this is finally resolved. I am grateful to Kitsmiller RV for findning a way to get this resolved correctly.

I got my 18K hitch via UPS today as promised by my dealer. I feel much better towing my fiver now. Thanks to Ron the owner for helping me get this fixed.

It's great that the owner took care of the hitch for you (I'm assuming the awning isn't fixed yet?), but it should NOT have taken that to have your issues taken care of. That's just WRONG. Either the owner needs to get some reliable help, or he's going to go under in very short order!
By the way . . . I assume YOU have to install the hitch? OR, is the dealer upstanding enough that he's going to pay someone else to install it? Oh, and what about the costs to drive back to Michigan to have the awning fixed? I would assume that they are taking care of that expense, and putting you up in a hotel while they're fixing the awning?
That's the very LEAST I would expect from a reputable dealer.
