We ordered our Open Road with a A&E power awning (not cheap). When we first went to use the awning the entry door would not open. The awning hangs too low. The awning was installed by the dealer as part of the prep. I contacted my dealer in Mason MI who quickly put blame on Pilgrim, the maker of the fiver using the premise the original awning rail was mounted too low. I then contacted Pilgrim who quickly blamed the dealer for not moving the rail up. To this day neither the dealer nor Pilgrim will accept responsibility. In fact they both have been amazingly rude. My question is does anyone know what the correct protcol is for installing a power awning.

I would go to the dealer and tell him to fix it and he can fight with Pilgrim later. Right now you need it fixed correctly, you don't care who is to blame.
I hope you are not one those who said that you paid an extra $3000 - $8000 over an internet wholesaler's price, so that you could get service from the local dealer.
BTW, I don't know the answer to your question.
Just my 2 cents.

Wow, the question I have for the dealer is "what's the right thing to do". Sounds like the dealer is at fault and you've given them a chance to do the right thing.
I could give you lots of suggestions, but I think you know what you gotta do. I'm sure you've weighed your options. The dealer is hoping you'll drop it and forget about bothering them.
My advice at this point: No more Mr. Nice Guy
Duane & Amanda, a teenager, A golden retriever named Jazz, a crazy pet rabbit named Stew, and now Optimus Prime the hamster.

I would put it back on the dealer, they should have tested it before letting you take delivery. I'm sure the new awning came with a mounting rail also included in the box... nex step is to post the dealerships name on here as to not have anyone else have a dealership problem. If they won't fix what they installed, what else will they not fix or repair?

Go back to the dealer and tell him your money was not too low and he needs to make it right and suck up whatever he has to in order to give you what you paid for.

make sure there's not any adjustment in the arms to raise it ,if not I would not take off the stock rail you will have many holes !! mount new rail above it.this is the dealers screw up, good luck.

Have had numerous RVs and awnings, are you sure the arms are adjusted accordingly. The awning can be adjusted down were it will hit the door.

There are 2 different types of arms. One for a steep pitch and the other a flat pitch. I just wonder if they have the steep pitch on it. Steep pitch requires 14.5 inches of clearance between the top of the door and the awning rail.

Bottom line is you purchased the awning from the dealer (not Pilgrim). He made the profit off the sale (not Pilgrim). It's up to him to install it correctly. If he had asked Pilgrim for advice and got the wrong info, then he would have told you so.

How about posting the name of this dealer so that others in your area will stay away from them and purchase elcewhere.
