All the bells and whistles on the new ones are wonderful, but realistically my dh is in outside sales for hvac and well residential building has slowed alot. So have his sales.
So we have found a 1996 Tiffin Allegro Class A for sale for 14K. It is stored indoors. has a new generator, and new tires, and has all maintence records and has been maintained by the book. What do we need to look for? It has had the same owner for 10 years, and we are buying from the owner not a dealership. I am getting so excited I almost can't stand it!!!!
here is a link to it...

give me the good, bad and the ugly!!!I am ready for it.

Ad says $16,000. Seems to be under priced. I'm no expert though. Would the seller split the cost for an inspection at a RV service center?

We have already got him down to 14K. How much do inspections usually run? The person he uses to maintain the RV is the owner of where it is stored.

On the surface, it DOES look like a pretty good deal. I sold a '96 Winnebago Warrior last year for 18K - it was in great shape also, but did not have the satellite (of course, you'll have to PAY monthly to be able to use it ). Check the date code on the tires (ALL of them) just to be sure. I wonder why it would have a brand new gen in it - other than that ... if it's what you want, then go for it! (does the owner have MPG records for you to look at? - I don't know anything about the 460). It does have that GEORGIA BULLDOGS tag .. but I suppose you can remove that !
You should take your time and actually LOOK at the maintenance records ... just in case it has spent most of it's life in the shop!

I am not a motorhome person, but I will add my two cents worth. Have the drive train, the motorhome chassis, checked out by a authorized repair agent for the chassis manufacturer. Have the RV portion of the motorhome checked out by a RV facility you trust. In consumating the deal, be certain the seller can provide you with a good title. Generally, Tiffin motorhomes enjoy a good reputation.

That's a lot of fun for $14K!

If it drives OK and the systems work AND you like it...go for it.

You can't go too wrong at that price.

Call your lender or bank or FCU...they will give you the BOOK value of the rig. Ask the seller for the VIN and run a check on-line. If the price is OK, or a couple thousand less, go for it after checking the title and VIN. (I'd ask a local RV tech to check it).

Good luck and hurry...

I'd buy it if the engine sounds good. Tiffin makes a good coach & those years wear well.

The price is reasonable in this market. I would be putting my money on the table based on what you stated and viewing the pictures. Expect the exhaust manifold bolts to pop but that is to be expected with a 460 or 454 as a strong possibility. That would NOT be a deal breaker. Others are now calling for an appointment.
