Two years ago we switched to National Interstate for full timers insurance. I was a little hesitant to go with a company that wasn't available 24/7, but after comments from others on this forum I decided to switch. Last year we got hit with 4"-6" hail. We informed NI that we would not repair the units until March & April of this year. They didn't like that idea but under law we have up to 2 years to settle. They just sent checks for over $14,000 for repairs and payment for 2 weeks in a motel. We are very pleased with their handling of this.
Two months later a 40' motorhome ran into the back of the truck while we were sleeping and GMAC sent a check for the repair based on pictures and also paid for a rental car for 7 days. The owner tried to claim that there wasn't much damage, but because the truck body was aluminum and a custom paint job it cost GMAC about $2000. BTW when he caught my bumper he slit his motorhome to a tune of about $5000.

Glad to hear it. We have had NI for over 5 years. Less than a week after we switched our truck at the time had a major transmission problem and needed to be towed to the original installer....over 100 miles. They never questioned us and we never saw a bill.

We have been very pleased with them.

If you don't mind me asking - in general - what was the cost for full time insurance? Did this include the toad or tow vehicle?

We've had two claims using NI. First time was before we had them as our insurer. A Trolley backed into my new Tahoe in a Savannah, GA parking lot and all I had to do was take it to Chevy dealer and they covered the whole thing.

Second time, the day DH was trading his 2005 Chevy in for the 2008 F450, he rearended a Ford Ranger. Yes, both times, the claim had to be handled by phone during normal working hours. But all I did was give NI the insurance info and the name and # of the Ranger owner. They took it from there and settled with her.

My experiences over the years with Progressive haven't been quite as good, but that didn't stop us from switching to Progressive when the NI Quote was twice as high on the new F450. We kept NI on the 5er.

The question I have is this.....

Just insure the motorhome and the toad and all the contents. Nothing else on the policy but that ---- anyone doing just that?

If, and it isn't a for sure thing yet, but if we sell and chop out everything the house will go, the garage, the Burb, the trailer, and etc. The only insurance we will have (property) will be the motorhome and car - was just wondering how much and how that works. Presently we have our home and just add everything else to it - it works nicely - but my insurance is well over $3 k annually.

The amount of the premium will vary with the unit and the state. We are a little over $2000, but we have friends that are closer to $4000. Our's included the tow our friends included tow & toad.

I have NI and for the 5er 2003 HH II and fulltimers ins. $725 a year. It is now 5 yers old and no longer good for the Replacement Cost Coverage. But we will get a check for $50000 plus personal property. That payoff amount will not decrease. Just renewed and talked to our agent RV Avantage. They know RV insurance.

Bill- you should really look at a full timers policy; all you mentioned, plus all the liability of a homeowners policy. Basically, anyplace I park is covered for litigious "slip and falls".
