I stayed at a KOA in Florida a few years ago by a lagoon and they told me the dump station was on city sewer and the rest of the park was on septic. They gave me(no extra charge)some packets of stuff to put in while I was there. I probably paid for it when I walked in the door and didn't know it.

I normally use full hook up sites when I can and no chemicals

And when I'm parked on a dry site I use biologicals, not chemicals.

They had a closed septic system and wanted to make sure the wrong chemicals didn't get into their system. They even provided some blue stuff for your use that were safe to use. It was a CG run by an Indian casino and had no affiliation with KOA.

Oops... I see that my origional post was slightly skewed. I wasn't referring to KOA but was referring to the RV park you mentioned. I had never heard of dumping first but I knew of a KOA near Yosemite that has told people this in the past. Guess I should have clarified that I wasn't posting about a KOA this time round.

Yes the RV park is the new one at Jackson Rancheria. You would think with the millions that they make that they could have put a decent sewer system and electical system in.

I'd avoid any place that required me to empty an already empty tank just to stay there. There is probably a "campground" a few miles down the road anyway so staying at a KOA parking lot wouldn't be on my list anyway.

Huh! Most of the stuff I have bought or seen advertised lately says "no formaldehyde". Just one more nail in the coffin. The more rules the campgrounds get, the more they charge, the more I'm thinking hotels might be more customer oriented!

They explained to me that the waste water from the full hookups was treated and eventually used to water the plush green landscape. They have their own treatment system and they're concerned about chemicals upsetting the balance in their treatment.

Keep in mind that the Rancheria is pretty much a country within CA and the USA. They are totally self contained with their own Protective Force, Fire Department, and laws.

We stayed at the Jackson Rancheria Campground about a month ago. Yes, they do require that you dump your black water tank before you enter their campground. It's really no big deal. While I went into the office to register, the attendant took care of this chore. They also gave us a bottle of chemicals to use in our holding tank.

They have an enclosed sewer system and some chemicals can kill the good bacteria that keeps the system in balance.

This is a beautiful campground. They leveled the top of a mountain and put in about 100 sites. Big cement level pads and lush green grassy areas for each site. You are surrounded by other mountains, covered with trees, you feel like you are out in the middle of no where, the only commercial building you can see is the office/group room and it looks like a big mountain lodge.

You are about a mile away from the casino and a shuttle comes every 20 minutes all day long. After midnight, you can call and the shuttle will come and pick you up or take you back to your campsite.

Sounds like good ideas to me.. keep their costs down and protect you electrically. They should have said 'sag protectors recommended' too. Many parks disallow Autoformers.

I used to stay in RV parks until I discovered the wonder of self-containment. The majority of them had some kind of power problem, including corroded sockets.

What's the Big Deal? If your tanks are Empty there won't be anything in them to Dump!
Actually Dumping on arrival is a great idea as the contents are loose and will drain better than if You have been sitting still! We always run some water into Our Sinks and toilet after draining so that there is a pool to start with. Draining it again upon arrival is not a problem if there has been any added materials during the trip so what!
