Does anyone own a Puma 30 FQSS and how does it tow? Says it weighs 6700 lbs. empty. I am close to purchasing one and plan to tow it with a 04 dodge ram 1500 with 5.7 Hemi.

oh have I been down this road before...

I bought a TT roughly the same size. Advertised as a dry weight of 7400lbs. TV at the time had a 8600lb tow capacity (1/2 ton Yukon XL)...

Thought there was no way I had over 1200 lbs of stuff...

Turns out the dry weight advertised was not close to the delivered weight... Ready to roll ours weighs in ~9500lbs, about 150 shy of GVWR.....

You can see I no longer have the Yukon by my signature...

I would want to see it weighed as it sits on the lot... I only made it two tows with the previous TV, before I had to upgrade...

My $.02 worth,

Bryan

PS My vote is for buying a TT that have a GVWR less than the tow capacity of the TV...

Advertised gross weight for your Puma 30 FQSS is 9600. That's the figure you should be looking at. Is your Ram rated for that weight?

Looks like 9300 is max for long bed quad cab, 2-wd and 8900 for s/b quad cab 2004 Ram 1500.

IMHO a 1500 isn't enough for that weight. The engine might do it in a 2500 but you might not be happy with it. I say for a TT of that size and weight a 2500 CTD is the only way to go. If the CTD is not for you get a 2500 Hemi and mod the engine. Do a search for SCT custom tune. They're great for our trucks. If your interested I can put you in touch with a good rep. If getting a new truck is out of the question the only option left is look for a lighter TT.

Do a lot of research on the Puma as one of the guys on here found out the hard way that what they advertize the weight to be in brochures and online differ and it was in fact a lot heavier than advertized. Ended up having to trade it off for a lighter model as his half ton PU would not adequately handle the load.

You may want to go look at the label on the TT itself. That is suppose to be the true weight.

Personally, I think you will find yourself over load. This means towing capacity, GVWR and GCWR.

Check out Rv Towing Tips for lots of good information on towing, weights and lenghts.
