Has anyone downsized from Class A to smaller Class C?

I really love the space in our class A, but with gas prices continuing to climb, I've been considering a change to something like the Winnebago View.

We average about 10,000 miles a year on the coach at 6 MPG, so the switch would save about $4400 a year in fuel costs, and would certainly be less fatiquing to drive. But, we sure would have to give up a lot of space and storage.

21' is about the shortest A I have ever seen. Should do about the same on gas as a C.

We just upgraded from a class C to a class A (used). We were always getting in each others way and afraid the we might "kill" each other. So we went from a 26' mini class C to a 28' class A with a rear queen. Now we can get lost without bumping into each other!

I must admit that a View might be nice with the slide outs!

We thought about it, and decided when we shut our 34' off, (7mpg) we will stay longer. a lot longer. In the past we would leave different areas too soon, not seeing all the sights, now we are there until the next government check catches up.

We started out with nothing, and we still have most of it left

i don't think the size is going to make that much of a mpg diff. pre 98's or so will get you a 5-7mpg, 98-up will net a 7-9mpg, that being said once your year is est. all the other tangables comes down to one thing, weight and whatever you carry in the big rig, you are going to try and pack into the smaller one. so take the one you have, unload as much as possible, slow down, stay longer, and enjoy the views. i haven't seen a trade yet that was worth 1 or 2 mpg's, and to me space is the hottest ponit of an unit, but to each his own....

who left the light on? is it me or are we leaning downhill. where did the dog run off to

Don't do it!!!  We were thinking about doing the same thing but changed our minds.  Cut costs in other ways. It's easy, be creative!!!

When I had my class "C" I didn't get any better gas mileage then I am getting with my "A". I had a 31' "C" so maybe a shorter length will yeild better mileage.

I just posted a thread on this very subject.

We downsized from a 29' Class A to a Winnebago View 24J last year. We found we had enough room in after we got organized and got rid of all the extra stuff from our class A.

There are 3 of us.

I think it all depends on how you camp. We don't spend a lot of time inside the motorhome. We use it for sleeping, showering and playing cards on a rainy day.

We went from a 35' class A to a 29' class C. Working out fine. Both the A and this C have 2 slide outs. Little better on MPG.

The Winnebago View is a smaller Class C based on a Dodge/Freightliner Sprinter chassis. I've heard the diesel version gets as much as 16 MPG. I think the OP is a little optimistic at saving $4,400 a year. $3,000 at today's prices would be more realistic I think.

I've seen a View and they are tiny compared ot most Class A motorhomes.
