I suggest buying a
Kill-a-Watt Meter
Power factor displays:
Volts
Amps
Watts
Hz
VA
KWH

I use the volts & Hz to adjust the governor on the Onan 2800. If your generator surges it's quite likely running too slow, and the voltage, and frequency will be affected. It seems my needs a little adjustment a couple times a year.
You can use the Hz, to check the frequency of your microwave while running on the MSW inverter. Should be 60Hz, but you will probably see something in the 50Hz or even 40Hz range.
