This is a recreation area in western Kentucky. We have been by it on the interstate quite some years ago and thought it looked interesting. This summer (probably July) we will be in the area with our RV and considering spending some time there. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!!

We also stayed at Hillman a couple of years ago-it was a very nice park and the spaces were big. There are several places to visit nearby--Patti's Settlement, a planetarium, Kentucky Lake. We really enjoyed it and hope to go back in the future. At the time we were there, Hillman did not take reservations, but you might check on this-I want to think someone said you could do that now.

Hillman's does take reservations in one area. That area and one other have FHU but no water view. Hillman's is a large cg with relatively few water front sites. There are also 2 nice COEs near the interstate - no FHU and very few sites to accommodate a 38' MH. PM me if you want site #s or more info. We used to camp there a lot - don't now because of rig size, mostly.

If you have a larger rig, consider Piney CG in the south (TN) end of LBL. We like it better - sites are less tight - and the loops not as tight either in most spots, so it's easier to get larger rigs in. Same deal as Hillman Ferry - reservations for only some sites (and not for the FHUs, I think). VERY nice CG.

Hurricane Ridge is one of our favorites in that area. It's on the Barkley side and away from most of the crowds of Hillman and Energy Lake areas. Can be hard to get into though on week ends.

We are planning on going to LBL in June. Friends had told us that Hillman Ferry was a little more family oriented. We will go with two boys ages 7 and 9. Are there enough things to keep them happy for 4 or 5 nights? Any place in the area that might be better suited for us? thanks

Hillman's has activities for kids, there are paved bike/walikng trails, occasional evening activities. My daughter's family loved it when their kids were younger. Plan to arrive on Sunday afternoon or early in the week for the best spots.

Look at lbl.org It has info on land between the lakes. I lived about 60 miles from the tennessee entrance for a while and really enjoyed camping at Piney. Sites are big and many kids ride bikes, have beach and swimming area, basketball courts, fields that many play kickball and baseball in. Usally have a group come and play on Sat. night. They have a paved walking trail, bike trails.oh yeah Decent playgrounds. Small section of sites have sewer others have electric only. They have many hydrants to fill tanks on rv with. There is a 1870's home place and goldenpond center, bison prairie further up the road from campground. Hillsman ferry is about 55 miles on north side of lbl from Piney. Try it you will enjoy your stay at either campground. Eddyville (close to Hillsman) has a water park. And check out Grand Rivers,KY close by too. Mike
