We are from Alberta so we thought we would go down into the states for our 2 week holidays. We are planning a trip to Montana but are having trouble figuring out where we should go. We have booked 4 days in Yellowstone but we would like to stop somewhere on the way down and then on the way back. Is there things to do or good camping around Great Falls, Helena, Butte or even Missoula. If anyone could recommend anything it would really be helpful. Thanks so much.

Well, you don't mention if you have been to Glacier NP. I personally would have a hard time just driving by. Lots of good camping options on the east side.

Also, are you going to the Tetons? If you have two weeks you should really spend time there. We are driving from Seattle to Yellowstone and the Tetons this summer.

Others can fill you in far better than I on the joys and wonders of Western Montana. You also may want to loop back through northern Idaho and the lovely Kootenay country in BC.

If you like cowboy art, the Charles M. Russell Museum is in Great Falls.

If you are going to be around Missoula then I would recommend that you head North on Highway 93 to Polson. It is located on the southwest edge of Flathead Lake and is absolutely gorgeous. We have been through there a couple of times in the last 7 or 8 years and last year my wife wanted to go there and stay for about a week and it was very nice and relaxing. If you wanted to go a little further north, Kalispell is a nice little city to visit also. Mike.

I'd have to second the idea of doing the "Going to the Sun Road",(Glacier N.P.) it's 40-50 miles of the most beautiful country you are ever going to see.
ALSO, if you happen to be in Missoula, and you get hungry for a GREAT pizza, try the MACKENZIE RIVER PIZZA CO.
Have a great trip....

The Great falls KOA is one of the nicest KOAs I've ever stayed in. It's a little pricey, but the experience was wonderful. Lots of shade, water park, fruit trees, vegetable gardens, pancake breakfast with locally made chokecherry syrups, free firewood. Be sure and catch the free nightly Bluegrass performance.

Two weeks is just about enough for Yellowstone, Grand Tetons and Glacier NPs. No need for anything else. However, we found lots to do around Missoula, Great Falls and Helena. The Smoke Jumpers headquarters is a good visit in Missoula, and the National Bison Range is nearby. Try the St Ignatius church, which is most unusual.
