We're on the road - FULL TIME! We left Hot Springs, AR yesterday morning at 8:10 AM and drove to Canyon Lake, Texas - approx. 11.5 hrs. with Barney the cat - kitty - "The Barn". He's one of the reasons it took longer, cause we had to stop to ck. on him and see if he was doing ok - Mr. laid back - think Garfield - "whatever..." He's SO cool. He's a bit frustrated that he can't go out, but he's adjusting, which is wonderful - he's bringing us much joy. He normally will NOT sleep with us, but last night, he was right up in our faces, sleeping at our heads and in between us. He knows where the litter box is, so we're good.

The campground: Riverside Resort, Canyon Lake, TX. We are cked. into here for 1 month and probably a LOT longer. What can I say? OMG! It's WONDERFUL! It's literally everything we need or want. My best friend is managing the office for the summer, so we know someone here who's showing us the ropes. We have a campsite that is quiet and private and yet close to the tenting area which is GREAT cause our twin daughters and 6 grandkids can come up with their tents this summer. Bathhouse/washateria is right across from us...we have a HUGE campsite (as all of them are here)....SO unlike any other private campground I've seen. We have our picnic table underneath a canopy of oak trees with shade galore and I even have room for a hammock (and my b-day is June 3!) So I've put in my request...ahem...

Just to get here and get everything done before we had to leave, we put things in we knew we needed or wanted and this morning has been organization time. Bill's on the outside doing his thing and I'm inside doing mine. We will take one of the LazyBoy recliners to the shop in San Antonio today and get a swivel put on it. My friend is a decorator and has saved me SO much money. She told me how to make the blue coordinate with the rust/burgundy recliners, so I don't have to replace or recover or paint. So I'm off to Hobby Lobby for materials to do my thing. It's so homey in this place it's ridiculous! When I get everything prettied up, I'll take bunches of pix and post them for all who have requested pictures of the truck, the 5'er and the mods. I literally got a new vision last night after pulling in here and talking with her.

There will be many more updates on our move, but we just wanted to let everyone know here that we finally made it OUT, even though the house has not sold. Oh, one more thing - on the way here yesterday our son called and said we had bees in the office - so many he couldn't count them. On the downstairs deck they have built a hive and they're in the walls with a comb and honey...sure...why not? This happened to us about 5 yrs. ago and a bee guy came and took them all away with the honey and comb. So, thanks to the internet and the local H.S. library, I found someone who is looking at it today - he's a remodeler who also is a beekeeper -I've made him a deal - you can have all the bees, honey and honeycomb if you take them all away and fix/repair any damage done. DEAL! He said...and my son will make sure it's done right. So much for leaving a house behind - I don't like it, but it CAN be done - so we're off to see the Wizard...the wonderul Wizard of OZ...following the yellow brick road! See down the road!

Bill and Linda,

So glad to hear the start of your new adventure went so well. Have a great time! Riverside Resort sounds beautiful. We'll have to check it out sometime in the future.

We're headed to Hot Spring tomorrow morning to meet up with DW's parents. We'll all be staying at Cloud Nine. After just one night there, we're headed for a 7 day stay at Petit Jean.

Welcome to Texas!

Thanks for the welcome to Texas - but I'm a Texan COMING HOME! Welcome to Hot Springs! It's beautiful - never stayed at Cloud Nine but I go past it all the time going to Little Rock. Our place is about 4 miles south of Hot Springs Village off Hwy. 7 N. Petit Jean is beautiful - if you've never been, there's a hike down to a waterfall that's beautiful but it pretty hard getting back up (unless you're a hiker, which I'm NOT.) Welcome to Arkansas!

Bill and Linda,

This is our 2nd trip to the Petit Jean area. This past Thanksgiving we spent a week at the park and fell in love with the area. Before leaving we immediately booked our site for a return visit. Also last Labor Day we spent a long weekend at Queen Wilhelmina State Park. Arkansas is indeed a beautiful state.

DW's parent's have just now bought property in Hot Springs. They also have a home in Washington state. Their new property backs up to Lake Catherine State Park. They are building a home which will be ready in around 4 months. As mentioned, we're spending one night in Hot Springs to visit with them before heading out to the park.

Monday is our 18th anniversary. We'll be spending the day in Hot Springs doing the tourist thing. We' doing the bath/spa thing at Buckstaff, taking a Duck ride and then having dinner at the Back Porch Restaurant. We've heard good things about it. We'll also do a little shopping while we're there.

OH NO! It CAN'T! My cup runneth over NOW! Seriously, this is no joke - I told my friend and Bill tonight that I feel like a bride - like I felt on my wedding day...I have the dress and veil and I'm walking down the aisle - towards something that will change my life forever - that will be an adventure - the newness is overwhelming - so many options for shopping and eating out and just doing NOTHING...quilting under a shade tree. Oh wow...I found so many fabric shops online that I can't wait to hit New Braunfels tomorrow. We're making the blue work with the rust/burgundy recliners and it's going to be great when we finish. We're almost exactly the same amt. of distance from New Braunfels as we were Hot Springs - 12 miles - no biggy - 20 mins or less. WalMart, same distance, Hobby Lobby, but other stores - huge discount fabric place - wholesale to the public. I CAN'T WAIT to get my stuff and come back and just sit and sew!

UPDATE ON THE BEES: Halleleujah! Found a bee guy who went out and said our son caught them as they were beginning to swarm - son sprayed like crazy and they found about 30 dead bees in the office of our house. A few were down on the deck that he'd killed too - no honey or comb in the walls. He said they were all taken care of and he didn't have to tear up the walls! The guy charged me $25 for gas to come and ck. it out. Cheap enough!
