The private CGs, no matter how empty they have been, are getting a little tiresome. Up till now the nights have been pretty cool so having power has been a requirement for us. We are travelers, not campers.
Spring seems to be finally catching up with us bringing not so cold nights.
Our thought is to dry camp somewhere on the TOW tomorrow. Anybody have a particular great spot in mind?

About a mile before you cross the US/Canada border there is a large pull out on the Canada side. Plenty of room for MH and Tow. We did not spend the night there but I can not remember any signs indicating that overnighting was not allowed. If allowed it would be an excellent place to spend the night. It could get cold there this time of year. Other than Chicken I can not remember many places large enough to pull out and I was in a 40' MH towing my van. Hope this helps.

Not much in the way of "organized" campgrounds on the TOW highway. There is the nice campground just on the opposite side of the Yukon River after you get off the ferry from Dawson Town. Some of the forum members like to go over there the evening before they depart for Alaska so they won't have to deal with the ferry in the morning. Later in the summer and the caravans start to arrive it can be a several hour wait to get across.
There is an old steam boat "grave yard" just down stream from the town on the far side of the Yukon. Walking distance from the YT campground. I haven't stopped there in 20 years or so but there may still be some old boats worth seeing. You being a boat captain might especially enjoy seeing the old derelicts.
Here is a photo of the SS Julia B. in her final resting spot about 20 + years ago. I see I still had some color in my hair in this photo as I stood admiring her, prior to crawling through it's innards. One of the many things I love about Canada, is they figure if you are dumb enough to do something and hurt yourself, too bad. They are not going to let you sue and collect a ton of money for something you did to yourself. Love that personal sense of responsibility I see through out the Canadian culture.

There are some BLM CGs on the Taylor highway. I don't remember the names, but make sure you have water--even though there is a pump, the water is quite heavily laden with minerals. Very un-satisfying.

Any place you pick will be great but there will be a better one just down the road, so choose and enjoy. It'll be a great trip.

We dry camped on the TWH two times. Once in 2005 and again in 2007. Each time at the same place. About half way between Chicken and Dawson City. It was just a turn out way up on top above the tree line. The border closes at 8;00 pm and there is no traffic. You will be all alone overnight. It was very peaceful. It rained one time and we had the most beautiful rainbow all to ourself.

I don't remember exactly where on the TOW but there is a nice pull out on the right side going toward Chicken. It is much closer to Dawson than to Chicken.

We found a BLM CG mentioned in The Milepost about 25 miles east of Chicken. It wass not open. No money box. We shared it with 2 others. Beautiful spot! Next day we drove through Chicken without stopping. Sure glad we did the BLM CG.

We are in Ak now and will be leaving in Aug. and taking the Campbell from Carmacks to Watson Lake. My question is this, how are the roads and are there services along the way? Thanks any info will be helpful.
